I don’t know why it won’t let me do a complete five stars but I would give it a 10 if I could. I just came back from Chicago today from going to their concert. I live in Portland, Oregon. And that was on my bucket list from when I was growing up in the 70s. They help me get through a lot of hard times from an abusive father. They were so awesome. I ended up getting my shirt autographed and I talk to them about my homemade jerky I make for different people and ask them if they’d like some. They said yes and so I got their numbers to contact them to send it to them so I can’t wait. I hope they like it. That was the best concert I’ve been to and I’m 64 years old.
We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas show brunch with Alicia Witt. She was absolutely lovely and her musical talent is unmatched. Alicia brought her new Christmas album "I Think I'm Spending Christmas With You" to life on the grand piano and put a smile on everyone's face. It was the perfect way to enjoy this holiday season.
This was a great experience in an intimate setting. I am so happy Sixpence has gotten back together! They played some old stuff and some of their new songs. The new EP is fantastic and I can't wait to hear more! Really looking forward to the next time they are around Chicago! The City Winery is a marvelous place to see a show and the service, food, and drinks were exceptional.
Awesome show! Love how they stripped down and reinvented the songs. How they really painted the story of how they happened, how they came to be one the og emo icons that they are. Helps you to appreciate the music that much more. It was wonderful to meet them and be a part of this intimate experience.
Pete was AMAZING! We saw his hysterical performance last year and he topped it this year! I hesitate to give him 5 stars because I don’t want to have to start seeing him at the United center when the world realizes what they are missing. Keep coming back to Chicago Pete!!! I love you!!!
This show was outstanding! Justin is one of the all time greats and he still has the magic he has surrounded himself with a great musicians the two ladies he works with were the perfect backups and Mike Dawes and incredible! A perfect evening of unforgettable entertainment! A real pleasure!
Awesome show! His setlist included a mix of his chart topping songs with a few covers. Just when you think he's killing it on sax he grabs the mic and blows you away with his voice. One of his best shows by far that I have seen. I would give him more stars if I could...He is a must-see!
The concert, last show on Saturday was outstanding. That’s what the rating was for, what I wish I could rate was the service at the winery. Food and drink orders taken and not delivered.
Servers standing in your view, while looking for their tables, food being carried back and forth, uncovered, and argumentative table staff.
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER! A special night for me who is an all-time supporter. I had an amazing time with Jor’Dan & his special guest Adia. The atmosphere was on point as far as the show itself. After I had the chance to do a meet & greet with Jor’Dan, I knew I could watch Him perform again.
Always fun see Bob! Took a group of dear friends. Connor McLaren opened and he was really great and his brother joined him on stage for a few songs. Nice acoustic set.
Bob was on fire with the creepy Halloween voices and a lively rendition of Blood. Crowd was pumped to hear Jaws. He played a pretty rare encore which included 2 songs. Bullets and Batman. I think it was the first time I’d seen him invite the opener back out to play with him. That was cool and the kid did an awesome job. Some initial guitar troubles and Bob leant him the stinking hand guitar!
The Jukes have been my favorite rock and roll band since 1978 so I'm biased, I'll admit it. My wife and I made a 6-hour journey to see the show and all the time spent travelling was worth it. The concert was the highlight of our trip to Chicago.
The band was in fine form; rocking out, playing softly, and everything in between. They played old favorites, new songs and even audience requests. They seemed to be having as much fun on stage as we were in the audience which added to the festive mood. Even when there was equipment problems, they worked with it and kept the show going. And let us not forget Southside's voice; he sounded great.
My only regret was that we could not stay for the second show the next night.
We, as always, loved the show. We traveled from MN - we’re lifetime fans and never miss a show locally. We brought our friend from IL and now you have another big fan. Sound was great, venue was awesome, loved the food options. Love you Johnny & the jukes!! See you back in MN at the Dakota!!
No A/C! Shame on you City Winery! We all were sitting like sardines! Tables too close together can’t move . Miki Howard tried to sing her heart out and had to take extra breaks because of the sweating. Her performance was excellent even through the heat ! Her daughter was beautiful and also a great singer!
First time at the City Winery in Chicago! Cool spot and the staff was very friendly. The SteelDrivers were great; awesome musicians, funny, and got some history on them and their songs and even trees and war. Would see again and definitely be back to City Winery.
Absolutely fabulous. Asleep at the Wheel's high energy, excellent musicianship, and soaring harmonies had folks dancing in the aisles. they may have been on the road for more than half a hundred years, but they have honed their performance to perfection. We loved it from start to finish, and they left us wishing for more. Well done.
We both loved the show!! I have not seen Eilen Jewell since 2016 at the American Music Festival in 2016 and this was Marianne first show. It was worth the wait!! What a show and I was great to chat with her afterwards!! Chuck D and Marianne G
Oh my God fantastic concert Rose Falcon is amazing y’all !!! And Rodney is still kicking ass love the show you all keep doing what you’re doing you’re gonna be great thanks for the great music have a great night
The guy in the blue shirt
The music has fired even though it took a long time and only did one hour performance. That was a little bit disappointed. When I saw GZA at House of Blues years ago performance was off the charts versus at City Winery. I talk exception that he lost a loved one. My condolences goes out to his sister.
10000 maniacs featuring Mary Ramsey was excellent. Since it was an anniversary show they did opt to play a "not ready for primetime" song, maybe two. You get the hits, the songs that you have listened to 10000 times on their MTV unplugged album, and possibly one or two more covers than you'd expect. There will be whistfulness.
Great show! While many may have come to hear him play the R&B songs they hear on the radio, I came anticipating his jazz influences. Robert and his band (a trio plus a DJ) did not disappoint. All three are excellent musicians, keenly listening to one another to take their improvisation to the highest heights. The polyrhythms the drummer imposed on top of the songs were amazing. The bassist's style incorporated Flamenco and played a major role in one song where you would have thought there was a guitarist on the stage, but there wasn't. But don't get it mistaken, his grooves was solid. The DJ added an atmospheric element to many songs weaving sounds and effects in and out without being obtrusive. Also, because Robert didn't have with him all the guest artists that sing on his records, the DJ would play samples of the chorus or a key line/lyric of the song, while the band played it as an instrumental. Robert Glasper's playing draws you in. From his rich chordal piano playing to his soaring single note, multi-bar phrases and riffs during his solo, he entertains with his playing as well as the humorous things he'd talk about between songs. But wait, there's more! They even busted out into a 9/8 groove during a solo section, that was funky and suspenseful. Overall, a great show that seemed to go by so quickly even though it was a two hour gig.
