AJ Woods and his wondrous band opened up and were moody and marvelous. We were all very blessed that they invited Jim Stallings of the legendary Sir Douglas Quintet up on stage to do a few songs including his classic 1969 hit “Heya!”
Heather & Jeremy of A Hawk And A Hacksaw were in rare form. I haven’t seen them since they played a magical show in the Old San Ysidro Church in Corrales in 2018.
This gig at Sister Bar was intimate and ebullient!
Fun, but a little short. Great music!
Elder rules supreme. They pillaged for more than two straight hours, song after song, and in clogs no less. It's true. The bass player was wearing clogs...and he could kick your teeth in with them every time he laid skin to the heavy strings. He was front and center, before the drummer, who sat on a riser, holding court before us all. Their timing was tighter than a swiss clock. Neither of them missed a change (there are a lot of them), and laid down an indestructible foundation to rebuild all that the wrecking ball of icy guitars destroyed. I say icy because the endless licks, riffs, and solos coming from either side of the bass, trading off leads with each other throughout the performance, were hard and cold and sharp edged.
But when they applied heat from their insurmountable build-ups, to come crashing down on our heads with wave after wave of inspiring chord progressions, that ice melted into a torrent of incredible atmospheric metal such as I've never heard. There is some truly remarkable musicianship to be discovered in Elder; from the precise count of their extended measures to the melodic paths chosen to best express themselves. It is music I never knew I identified with so deepy until they absolutely murdered me with it.
Really enjoyed the show and the venue. Hoping Mr Carter comes back again soon!
It was fun. But the sound engineers did a terrible job. Too many times the mikes did not work and could not hear the singer/band.
3rd time I’ve seen Ultra Q, they’re absolutely amazing every time and the nicest guys ever :’)
The Rev was in full effect, as we're the Surfer Jetts, amazing show all the way around.
Rev played some old school jams which lit a pit on their tour opening, Friday the 13th show! Even rounded it out with their classic cover of Motorhead's Ace of Spades. Brilliant night!
Fantastic show, Emilo and Tio Al where hitting out of the park.
Only wish it was longer. Great show.
Once in a lifetime experience.
Raekwon put on a strong show. Had love for his fans. I wanted him to perform more of his joints all the way through and not as much Wu material, but I walked away satisfied regardless.
Awesome show had a great night! Hope you come through again.
I would literally go to a guano-ridden bat cave a mile under the earth to see Open Mike Eagle. It was true before last night’s show and it’s doubly true now.
Adult. always puts on a killer show guaranteed to get you moving. First time in Albuquerque and my fifth time seeing them. Wow.
Show was AWESOME! Venue was great, performances from the opening bands was great
Fun band, high-energy crowd, one of my favorite venues. A really great night.
GARGOYLES YEAH! YEAH! YEAH!!
Rakim is still smooth as butter. Rocked all his classics.
Great show, but it should've started earlier. 11:45pm was pretty late for a Thursday night.
Fucking mind blowing! Thanks for coming and come back soon!
