GA Theater is one of my favorite places to experience a concert. In took my family of 6 plus 2 more. Dylan Marlowe, Brian Fuller, and Tyler Chambers did not disappoint. My 9 yr old daughter got to hold Dylan Marlowe’s hand when he cave off stage and worked his way through the crowd singing. Brian Fuller took the time to talk with fans after the concert was over at the merch booth.
A priceless moment with my family.
GA Theater is a great live venue! Donny put on a great show and regional artist / Athens native Nicholas Mallis did not fail to impress with killer tunes and an entertaining live show! Certainly an artist to watch!
I honestly can't tell you I was unable to make the show.. But I'm sure it was truely amazing. Raymond Fulcher is the best musician and songwriter I have ever heard in a long time.. He has an amazing knowledge of how to make his lyrics into something spectacular and very enjoyable... May God continue to bless him and his talents for future generations to admire...
These musicians always do a superb job of performing Beatles songs...I've seen them countless times & they never disappoint. I dance my butt off throughout the entire concert! I strongly recommend that anyone who likes the Beatles' music go to the next opportunity to enjoy this band!
Jimmy Eat World: 9/27/23 “Fresh out from a Shinedown/Papa Roach concert the evening prior I made my way down to Athens Georgia (home of R.E.M., Widespread Panic, and others) for an evening of 90s alternative/post grunge/emo. It was my fourth time at the historic 1,028 capacity Georgia Theater, and the general admission show was a no surprise sell out. Jimmy Eat World having just come off of co-headlined tours with Manchester Orchestra and My Chemical Romance was in town to round out September with the one off show. I arrived an hour before the doors opened in hopes of grabbing the first balcony center stool virtually overlooking the stage, which I was able to with relative ease. The 1993 formed band from Mesa Arizona is still composed of lead vocalist and guitarist Jim Adkins, guitarist Tom Linton, bassist Rick Burch, and drummer Zach Lind. With 10 studio albums, the last nine featuring the current line-up and 14 charted singles (including 2 #1’s) the set list was up in the air. I had to wait and be surprised! Arriving at my seat revealed an overview of a surprisingly cluttered stage as openers ‘The Pauses’ (Inderocktronica) equipment was positioned directly in front of Jimmy’s. The place filled to capacity rather quickly for a Wednesday evening, and at 8 p.m. the three person opener from Orlando FL took the stage for a 30 minute / 7 song set. Singer and bassist Tiemey Tough and her team received a great response as she sang the praises of Athens. ‘It’s my favorite city. I love Athens, I’m such a huge fan. We love playing here.’ Not only did they exhibit a unique sound but they had a unique set up. Stage right controlled by Tiemey had a satellite dish styled light shining out into the audience that illuminated in a red pattern according to the way she played and sang. She had a statue of a cat on the same side of the stage that also illuminated red and followed the same light pattern. Stage left was reserved for guitar, keyboard, and a synthesized control panel box. For the music that came from the left side of the stage a similar satellite style dish as well as the guitarist’s pedal board lit up green. The bass drum in the center illuminated orange according to the beat. The full kit also included a set of electronic drum pads. Jimmy Eat World gave them a special shout out more than once during their own performance dubbing them ‘fine outstanding people’. The half hour intermission between bands cleared the stage entirely for a very organized set up for the Headliners. Drums and keys were in the background on rolling risers, and bass, lead vocals, and guitar were in the forefront, left to right. At that point I was able to zoom in with my Samsung Galaxy phone camera 15x from the balcony to take a picture of the setlist taped to the stage floor to follow along with. At 9 p.m. the lights dimmed as the band took the stage in silhouette back lit in blue for the first song ‘Congratulations’, a deep cut from the new album. The 1 hour and 22 minute / 19 song set included only one other from their latest release and aside from the hits featured a number of deeper cuts. The next two songs, big hits, set the momentum early: #1 ‘Bleed American’ and #2 ‘Sweetness’. The no-question-frontman Jim Adkins addressed the crowd, ‘You guys came out ready for Wednesday I gotta say’ and again prior to the fourth song a #21 charted single ‘Something Loud’, ‘I can already tell this one’s gonna be good.’ Jim’s words were few most evening long, mostly gratitude, and the band held their respective positions all evening with little movement about the stage. It was all tastefully done as the pureness of the rock ‘n’ roll musical performance spoke for itself. ‘For Me This Is Heaven’, ‘Kill’, ‘Just Tonight’, ‘Lucky Denver Mint’, ‘Place Your Debts’, ‘Hear You Me’, and ‘Let It Happen’ comprised the set of deeper cuts to the delight of their long-standing fans! Swapping out his electric for an acoustic, Jim moved into ‘555’ a promo only single from the new album ‘Surviving’. Although they only performed two songs, it is a strong two decade comeback album, one of my favorites, and worthy of listening all the way through if one hasn’t heard it already. ‘It’s always a jam here, it’s always a party here, thank you so much’ Jim commented before leading into ‘Hear You Me’ from ‘Bleed American’. The song written about the two women who headed up the band Weezer’s Fan Club and died driving back from a show was an outstanding addition to the set, the title words being the women’s most infamous expression. Charted singles ‘Sure And Certain’, ‘A Praise Chorus’ and ‘’Work’ kept folks singing along. Jim turned the mic over to Tom on guitar for the vocals on ‘Blister’, an uncharted single going back to 1999. The band saved their two number ones for the end of the regular set, ‘Pain’ and ‘The Middle’. Prior to the opening chords of ‘The Middle Jim once again expressed his gratitude. ‘When a good thing comes around tonight, it’s just like, you know, it’s the best thing in the world for any musician.’ ‘Thank you all so much for the opportunity to play music for you.’ While I videotaped the entire song I couldn’t help but thinking it was going to come out bad as the entire balcony was literally shaking with folks jumping up and down during the chorus. It ended up coming out great! As the lights went down, we all knew an encore was ensuing as a crew member slipping on stage to load up Jimmy’s microphone with guitar picks gave it away. The encore was a full eight minute rendition of the last cut off the ‘Futures’ album ‘23’. The crowd was left cheering, and we were all wondering if the band could squeeze out just one more song, but alas, the lights came on and the roadies quickly begin packing up. It was no BS rock ‘n’ roll fueled by guitar driven anthems that made it a notable show, one well worthy of attending when the band pencils in a date in your town.!” Review and photo by DAve (Concert #825)
Bucket List venue for Ray and for me! Ray discovered Eric Church at Georgia Theater and I've been an Eric fan since 2006. I would not have missed this show for anything. You could feel Ray's energy pouring into every song. He debuted a few new ones including "Two Cigars" which had the entire venue so quiet you could hear a pin drop. That's the power of music - to make you feel what the writer feels. I love the new show format - couple new covers, medley of songs he wrote with Combs, and Ray lets the band carry a few songs while he gets more involved with the crowd by shaking hands, fist bumping, and taking selfies. Ray is a gifted writer and skilled musician who always brings his A-game and leaves the crowd wanting just one more song!
First time show. I knew it would be a good one. I wasn’t prepared for just how good of show she gave us at the Georgia Theater. It’ll take a while to come back down. Do yourself a favor and go see her especially while Willi is touring with her. 10 stars for both.
We didn’t have to wait long in line near the door they check for ID’s & made U walk through a security scan I felt safe. Both sides of bars were packed but me & my friend was able to get close to the stage. Security guys were nice enough hand out free water bottles & placed became packed. Noah Hicks was on first he sang great but he forgot a lot of words to his songs but he still put on a great show & my friend got take a picture with him before we left for her birthday! Drew Parker was awesome with his band overall I had a wonderful time the day before my Birthday! Thanks Brandy from Watkinsville,GA
Even though I didn't go, I still know that his concert was the best because to me, Bailey Zimmerman is the best!
I don't know if he performed his newest song "Get to Gettin Gone", but all I know is that is the best song he made so far!
It was so amazing being in a throng of people who knew the words to every song and sang along, sometimes so loud they drowned out the band. It was amazing. Hardy himself is a top notch performer. We will see him again!
What an amazing show! Duane proved yet again that he's more than capable of making it without riding his dad's coattail. Same with Berry Duane Oakley, who did his late father proud killing it on the bass as always. Johnny and Cody were equally as impressive. After the show Duane was at the merchandise booth meeting fans. He was really kind and it was a pleasure meeting him.
Blues Traveler: 10/14/22 “Athens traffic may have given us the ‘run-around’ thanks to UGA’s homecoming parade but a one hour arrival prior to showtime was all I needed to secure my spot. It was a Friday evening sell-out in the historic Georgia Theater and my first time ever seeing Blues Traveler LIVE so I wanted the best view possible. For the next two hours I stood my ground up against the stage positioned exactly between where John and Tad were likely to be stationed. The theater (1,028 capacity) would prove herself the perfect size for the blues rock/jam band formed in New Jersey. The set up stage L to R was: bass, drums, a stand holding Popper’s assortment of harmonicas, keys, and guitar all a forefront a full stage length backdrop of the album Four’s black cat artwork. The line up featured the trio going all the way back to their ’87 beginnings with John Popper on vocals/harmonica, Chan Kinchla—guitar, and Brendan Hill—drums. In addition were Tad Kinchla, Chan’s brother on bass since Bobby Sheehan died in ’99, and Ben Wilson on keys since 2000. The band took the stage at 9:20 for an hour and thirty-five minute set which included the big three, ‘Run Around’, ‘Hook’ and ‘But Anyway’. John announced, ‘What’cha say, lets boogie’, and he never stopped. Popper 55 dressed in an Aces San Francisco shirt looked great— the one time 435 lb frontman is now a lean mean harp playing machine, vocalist, and sometimes a scatter. The set featured a number of solos mixed in between songs, keyboard, bass and drum. You could tell when the solos were about to go down as John headed back stage but actually sat down for the view all the way back toward the side. Catching the view from my angle you could see him tapping along and talking to the sound engineer. First was the keyboard solo steady, smooth, and carrying a retro vibe. Ben wore a ’1973’ shirt with a 1973 banner hanging front of his keys to symbolize Roe V Wade. Next was Tad on bass, it was one of the best bass solos I’ve experienced. When they brought out his peddle-board during set-up I thought to myself, why are they setting the guitar effects board where the bass guitars are. The enormous board with 11 units on it was Tad’s and I got to watch his foot use each one of them! Tad had a medallion hanging from his mic stand that John joked was his trophy for selling out the venue. When the drum solo began John hung around, one could see the platform literally shaking as Brendan pounded on the silver-glittered kit accentuated with two skulls hung on the cymbal stands. Chan didn’t have a longstanding solo but there was no doubt he was all in to the performance interacting with the audience all evening with numerous hand gestures and call outs. One highlight was a cover of Charlie Daniel’s ‘The Devil Went Down To Georgia’ where you guessed it, harmonica was swapped out for the fiddle parts. The Georgia crowd reacted as expected with a rousing round of bull dawg barks. For the encore, the band typically chooses a different cover per show such as Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ or ZZ Top’s ‘La Grange’. The evening’s choice was Mary Jane’s Last Dance’ well worthy of honoring Tom Petty’s legacy. At a show like this it’d be difficult to leave the front row WITHOUT a souvenir. The gentleman to my immediate left caught a harmonica tossed by John, the lady to my right a drumstick. As I began to feel somewhat distraught and left out, my wife Michele suddenly bent down and came back up handing me a pick. Somehow Chan’s pick had travelled across stage, a beautiful white pick with ‘KINCH’ on one side and the black cat on the other. Opening for Traveler was an alternative folk rock band from Appalachia ‘Annabelle’s Curse’ featuring Carley Booher on electric mandolin. The band played a 35 minute set. One of the audience members called out ‘More mandolin’ in lieu of ‘More cowbell’, The band proved themselves tight, engaging and worthy of checking out their music catalogue! Prior to the show I had someone tell me that by the end of the show I’d be sick of hearing the harmonica. Let’s face it, it’s not everyday that you hear a harmonicist like John —I thoroughly enjoyed each blow, suck, and slide! My right foot never stopped tapping, I almost had to drive home leftie to avoid any unforeseen accidents.” Review and photo by DAve (Concert #714)
Always have been a fan of MCH. Fellow Miami-an and I’ve been to two of their concerts previously (always a blast)!
The venue is interesting and unique. Very well-kept and clean. If there’s one of my fav bands/artists playing there again, I’d definitely go! :)
Great set. Really cool band that manages to remind you of a ton of different great artists (The Squeeze (if The Squeeze came outta Nashville) and The Band for two) but still sound like their own thing. Tough environment to play in (who'd have thunk a rooftop show in July would get cold?) but they still laid down a great set. Quirky but really fun stage presence. If you get a chance to see these guys, do it.
AMAZING CONCERT!!! The energy was strong the whole time and the people in attendance were totally engaged. The music wasn't too loud, so you could understand all the words. All the songs had meaning and were very well written. Lukas and the boys are so talented, I will definitely go again.
Fantastic job boys!
Second time seeing them in a week. This show was amazing! Car bomb killed it. Everyone was on point. Even Dustie was standing for most of the show. I don’t think I saw him sit once. Hopefully he is improving!!
A sold out crowd arrived at The Georgia Theater in Athens on the first day of the release of all Covid restrictions and so did Eli Young Band! Jason Nix proved his songwriting skills as the first opener and Pony Bradshaw followed with a good length set spotlighting their “dark songs”. Both paved the way for an upbeat and energetic and certainly crowd pleasing EYB. Eli Young represents to me the last of a breed of country music groups that stretched into the 2000’s prior to the most modern wave. I was surprised how many songs I actually knew and obviously so did the packed audience singing every word. Highlights of the evening included a full on audience Go Dawgs chant right into Mike’s microphone. Mike mentioned it’s always a bad idea when you turn the mike over to a member in the audience but here it was a controlled outbreak. Even If It Breaks Your Heart morphed into a rendition of Learning To Fly as Mike also did into a human flying machine and back again to the delight of the crowd!
Great show. Didn't think there was any way that this set could be any better than fall on Atlanta--and musically, it wasn't quite--but it was such great set. Definitely the best live band in bluegrass and puts on a better show than most rock acts. If they come to your town, get there.
Most folks are happy when they take home a souvenir guitar PICK flung into the crowd, for Tab Benoit fans in Athens GA, it’ would be a guitar STRING. Honest music is what Tab describes his passion as he intro’d into an Otis Redding song. Honest and passionate it is! I had a great reserved seat for a standing room crowd to see the now long haired guitar hero performing his delta swamp blues. Tab didn’t miss a beat and he is a must see for any guitar hero wanna be such as myself. It was a great night in Georgia!
Wow! This devil went down to Athens to see a Tab Benoit show and went home an Albert Castiglia fan. I didn’t know what to expect for my 600th over all lifetime concert, and I haven’t see guitar playing like that in years, maybe ever. Great support on bass and drums also. Guitar Hero fans, do not miss Albert when he comes to your town!
