Didn't know what to expect on an early show for a cold Wednesday night but The Steepwater Band always delivers the goods. A crowded room was buzzing and the band responded in kind with a fiery set, intensity building song after song. Steepwater favorites included The Taker, High And Humble, Come On Down and the surprise deep cut of Last Second Chance! A couple of covers sprinkled in also provided some exclamation points...a rollicking version of Derek And The Dominoes "Tell The Truth", a heavy AF take on Free's "Walk In My Shadow" and an absolutely menacing version of The Stones "Midnight Rambler" which featured some ferocious guitar interplay from Jeff Massey and Eric Saylors and stop-on-a-dime dynamics from the rhythm section of Joe Winters and Joe Bishop. An hour and a half of sweaty, driving rock n' roll...don't miss these guys if they come to your town or anywhere close!
Kathleen Edwards sounds better than ever. I saw her in the Showcase lounge in 2003 when she broke through at the ripe old age of 24. Her songs are timeless. Chameleon/Comedian is perhaps my favorite song of hers and took me through some pretty hard times. It's a haunting tune and she just nailed it, again. Will Harrison hasn't aged a day either. He is so good on the lead guitar and compliments Kathleen's mood and voice completely. The whole band does actually with driving drums and plaintiff Hammond and sumptuous bass. Let's hope it's not another 22 years until she returns to HGM.
What can you say about Mia? She’s a performer! There was an additional Pom this time around, freeing Mia up from guitar and keyboard duties. As I listened to The Squad roll thru their catalog, I started thinking how can a band have such good songs and not be a huge mainstream success? The equation doesn’t add up for the Pom Poms. I hope they keep at it, as I’m grateful for them willing to grind. The Poms are in my circle of trust, meaning if they come within a 3 hour radius to where I live, I’m going! No brainer! Grateful they came to Burlington for the 2nd time.
Great set. Higher Ground will split the venue depending on who is booked. We were in the smaller side venue (which I prefer actually), so it was more intimate. Daffo kicked it off, and Gabi’s band was on point. I wasn’t familiar with Daffo but a good portion of the crowd knew the words to their songs. Sarah and the rest of the Hotties sounded great. They played most of the songs off of Power, and a few of their older bangers. Her voice really soared so hats off to the sound person. At one point she came out and set up a stool in the pit and played a song amongst the crowd. Really cool! She interacted well with crowd. If you weren’t a fan of tenderpunk before the set, you would be after. I grabbed a record on the way out. Thankful The Hotties graced us in Burlington!
Amazing! A must see for doors fans for sure! The band uses all the same original equipment and every part of the auditory experience is on point. The energy and dedication from the singer is amazing to see bringing pieces of Jim’s poems and and actions onto the stage!
Sell-out crowd. Had a long line waiting to get in at the time the opening band was starting so that wasn’t ideal (would have given 5 stars barring this). Opening band Ovlov was great and interacted with the crowd nicely. Bear from Mannequin Pussy came out to sing lead vocals on Ovlov’s last song. Very cool!
There was plenty of good merch to be had, and there was a steady line waiting their turn to buy. Always good to see that as it usually means some direct proceeds for the band and crew. If I’m being picky, a second person at the table to handle orders might have been helpful to keep the line down.
Mannequin Pussy sounded tight and played most of the songs on their new album. Missy, lead singer, expertly whooped up the crowd with her antics and interactions. Fun to watch. They were better than expected and I would definitely see them again. I appreciate them coming to Burlington! Great evening of Rock N Roll!
Fantastic show! The music was great and the interaction with the audience was genuine. I clapped, I danced, I laughed! You need to visit Burlington on every tour! Hats off to Parker for filling in for Steve....phenomenal guitarist! Natalya crushed the fiddle! Ryan, Peter and Patrick were awesome as always! Wishing Steve a speedy recovery! See ya next time!
Everything about this night blew me away. The gorgeous little venue tucked away in Vermont, the dedication of the fans who showed up, and of course, Hannah herself. The woman knows how to put on a show!!! Her vocals and guitar skills are out of this world, not to mention her beauty and charisma. There wasn't a dull moment that night, and she made every fan feel seen from the stage!! She took the time to meet us after the show and I got to show her the jacket I painted for the concert featuring her mother's artwork, gave her a friendship bracelet, and went home with a signed vinyl and a hug from the most wonderful badass rockstar lady I've ever met. 10/10 Strawberry Moons, would see again. 💗🍓🌙
Music was beautiful, couldn’t ask for more from Lukas & the band. The Strand needs work for sure. The audience was rude, lots of talking during songs. I would give the show 5 stars but for the audience
Great venue, incredible artist! I drove up 2.5 hours (and home after the show) to see Lukas, and it was worth every mile and every yawn on the way home. Truly incredible! Also kudos to the security folks who managed to get a pair of hooting and screeching women to tone it down, at least during the quiet songs!
Truly excellent show. Please, bring him back again!
I got my ticket the afternoon of the show. It’s been on my calendar for months but my inner voice said just wait. Just wait just wait so I did the morning of the show with no tickets available I even called the ticket seller they had none. She said call the box office so I did and I left a message. The box office opens at noon.. by 1:30 in the afternoon I didn’t hear anything so I called them when I called them they said hold on and then I got a call coming in from the box office and I picked up on that and they said Jan we have one ticket left and if the handicap you want it so I took it went to the show the shows amazing Stephen Marley. I’ve seen him many times phenomenal artist, phenomenal performance, conscious vibe this venue, the flying monkey was outstanding. small intimate setting and I met two new friends and we had a blast together Bandsintown thanks for everything. Keep up the good work.
The room was 10000 degrees, and at least 9000 of those came from the stage. What an electric set, it's a small venue but the energy coming from the stage made it feel like MSG. My hubs didn't know what he was getting into, and was Blown Away. Also, literally, first show where the new music was just as fire as the old favorites. 🔥
Not only is Joywave an incredible live act, but they made sure to bring openers that were too!! Elliott Lee is incredible, shocked it's their first tour when they're so talented. Dizzy was also fantastic, both the lead singer of Dizzy and Elliott Lee sounded exactly like the recordings, super talented people.
And Clibbus....absolutely amazing. I hope everyone gets to be blessed by the sausage sceptre someday.
Thank you Joywave, sorry Burlington's elderly bullied you on instagram but please come rock the house again sometime. 😘
Great show, great energy, great sound. I loved the banter between the band members. I liked how they opted for local bands to open for them. If you get a chance to see them, don’t hesitate. Same for Higher Ground in Burlington. Excellent venue!
5/5 stars. Stephen doesn’t disappoint. His song writing is spectacular and his performance is one of a kind. He exudes energy and kindness. Seeing him in such a personal setting with his full band on the release of his new album was an amazing experience. And what a treat to see his daughter Sophia on stage with him. It will be interesting to see if she follows her father’s career path.
BEST VUNDABAR SHOW IVE EVER BEEN TO. ACTUALLY PROBABLY THE BEST SHOW IVE BEEN TO PERIOD. their fans always go crazy for them and im glad my friend and i drove like seven hours for this show <3
This show was absolutely phenomenal. Just a great vibe through the whole venue. Semler was amazing as always, and Joy put on such a spectacular show. I loved every moment and would take any opportunity to see these amazing artists again.
Know Molly only through her videos and music, so first time seeing her live. She did not disappoint! She was incredible! We drove up to VT from NH for the show and would gladly do it again. And the staff at Higher Ground rounded out the night as a completely positive experience. If we lived closer to Burlington, VT, we would make a habit of attending --
good hype beasts, great energy, unimpressive musical ability displayed, but that’s okay because i got drunk and had a great time regardless. the older brother is chill and good vibes, the younger brother seems like a sensitive bro guy. makes sense.
Milky Chance is incredible! Highly recommend seeing and listening to them if you like electronic folk/reggae music. The show was beautifully done with color and smoke for effect. Their voices sounded exactly like they do when listening to their pre recorded music, maybe even a little bit better.❤️ I hope that I get the opportunity to see them again.
