About Horses on Fire

Ghent, Belgium’s Horses On Fire saw the light when Thijs De Cloedt (guitars) and Michele De Feudis (lead vocals, guitars) met in the hallways of an art school in 2008. They hit it off with a mutual adoration for both rootsy and modern rock. Shortly after Michele brought in his younger brother Alessandro (drums), with whom he played in bands since their childhood days, Alessandro’s friend Anthony Statius joined on bass and they began playing bars and clubs in Flanders. With initially a mix of heavy stoner riffs and hard rock grooves they made the finals of Global Battle of the Bands in and that got them a gig in London’s Scala at King’s Cross. They recorded the Electric Orphans EP in the Red Tape Studios with the help of Triggerfinger’s Monsieur Paul, quickly followed by their self-titled debut album, produced by Wallace Vanborn’s Ian Clement and released on V2 Records in February 2012. The album got them shows across Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Switzerland and Italy, supporting the likes of Band of Skulls, Rival Sons, Mark Lanegan Band, The Stranglers, Status Quo and Triggerfinger. The Horses also made their debut on Dutch national television that year with their single ‘Draw The line’. They spent the summer of 2013 in Brussels’ Jet Studios and Ghent’s infamous Audiotheque studios to record their second album ‘Any Kind Of Storm”. In search of a more versatile sound, they recruited producer Stéphane Misseghers, known for battering the drums with Soulwax and since 2005 with Antwerp’s finest dEUS. Shifting to a more danceable, energetic, exploding, poppy but still kick-in-the-nuts rock approach Horses On Fire are bastard sons to Belgium’s booming alternative rock scene, British pop rock and some American mainstream.
