About General Mindy

General Mindy was founded and raised in Antwerp / Belgium in 2004. With catchy melodies and a bluesy touch their rock keeps on rolling. It reminds of the Evil Superstars, John Spencer Blues Explosion, Beck, Millionaire and lots of others, yet it always sounds like General Mindy.

In 2004 they won a competition of the Belgian “Poppunt”-magazine, where after they recorded and released their first single “Travel in style”. Luc Van Acker (Ministry, Arbeid Adelt) commented: “I hate it! Like most of the bands from Antwerp, these guys seem to have found a guitar and a synthesizer in a garbage can yesterday, quickly wrote a song this morning and recorded it in no time in the afternoon. And it sounds this amazing!” In 2006 they also won the “Demopoll”, organized by Poppunt and the Belgian national radio Studio Brussel, with the song “Frequently obscene”. “Hello there, the year just began and here we already got one of the best demos of 2006. Keep some space for General Mindy on the next Demopoll-cd and get the record-deal ready! Leave the band and the production as it is and bring a cd out! Millionaire just got a serious competitor!” (www.demopoll.be)

Both songs were on the air in Belgium – StuBru, Radio Urgent (Ghent), Radio Centraal (Antwerp)- and on local radios in the Netherlands, Germany, the U.S. and Mexico.

Holland became aware of the band as well: “A good frontman is a good start and titles such as “Superfuck fried big bang” and “Prozac Candy” get the job done”, said 3voor12 (www.3voor12.nl), and the Dutch Oor-magazine voted them MySpace-band of the month.

General Mindy didn´t just appear out of the blue. Bass player Luk Michiels played in the legendary Belgian funk-band Wizards of Ooze, Steven Cassiers plays drums for Dez Mona and Philipp Weies played about every style from rock to noise improvisation. Hans De Prins (Keys) and Johan Verckist (vocals, guitar) have been playing together ever since they learned to talk, and have been haunting the Belgian rock scene since their teenage years.

General Mindy are no strangers in the live scene anymore. They played many Belgian stages such as Lintfabriek (Kontich), AB Club (Brussels), CC Zwerver (Leffinge), Petrol (Antwerp), Charlatan (Ghent), Arenberg (Antwerp), VK* (Brussels) and toured the Netherlands and Germany (Winston, Wolpop, Cul De Sac, Blue Shell,…). Among the bands they shared the stage with were Girls vs Boys (U.S.), Beangrowers (Malta), Millionaire (B), Tom Barman solo (B), Magnapop (U.S.), Arno (B), Vive La Fête (B),…
