Night 2/2
Saturday March 8, 2025
Ben Nichols
(from Lucero Solo)
with special guests Spencer Burton and Rebekah Hawker
proudly presented by Dapper Depot Menswear and Harvey's Orillia
Join us as we welcome Ben Nichols from Memphis, TN. "For more than twenty years, it’s Ben Nichols’ voice, a southern growl, that has defined the Memphis punk-country band Lucero, for which he is the songwriter and vocalist". He will be joining us SOLO for these 2 shows!
We are so excited to be welcoming back to Orillia, Spencer Burton. Spencer's latest release North Wind was "recorded again in Nashville with Andrija Tokic the album fits sonically with the rest of Spencer’s catalogue, but the tone is noticeably different. The songs are easier, more comfortable, at ease. They encapsulate that same feeling he had out there alone, of singing by the campfire into the
woods".
Roundin' out the the bill is Rebekah Hawker. This past year saw Rebekah performing at Roots North Music Festival, Mariposa Folk Festival, and a residency at the Cameron House in Toronto. She "embraces the full spectrum of "country,"—from John Prine's lore-spinning to Linda Ronstadt's honeyed vocals, Kacey Musgraves' resilient sheen, and the vulnerability of Kathleen Edwards.

Biographie de Rebekah Hawker
With roots in church choir harmonies and songwriting prowess built on an art-rock adolescence, it’s not so surprising that Rebekah Hawker ultimately found herself at the intersection of country and folk. Hawker embraces the full spectrum of "country,"—from John Prine's lore-spinning to Linda Ronstadt's honeyed vocals, Kacey Musgraves' resilient sheen, and the vulnerability of Kathleen Edwards. Hawker’s latest single “Ticket” is a classic midtempo country song about two things that never go out of style, in any genre: broken hearts and broken dreams. She sings of bastards and radio play, social media and getting ghosted, but flips the script in a canny way, declaring a positive outlook despite the rest: “I’m satisfied with the long shot / I’ve got a ticket.” To have hope is better than the alternative. “You’re on your own,” she says, “deciding that this thing has worth.”
In 2020 Rebekah’s song ‘Catch You’ won Folk Music Ontario’s Songs from the Heart award and in 2022 she was selected as an official showcasing artist at their annual conference. She was recently selected as a participant in the 2023 RBC x Launchpad Music Entrepreneurship Program and her latest single “Ticket” (released with the support of FACTOR and Ontario Arts Council) found placement on Gems on VHS's monthly playlist.
