Mozart La Para

Looking at the success that Mozart La Para has accomplished you may think he is an overnight sensation. The Dominican artist has worked relentlessly since he was 12 years old to achieve his dreams. Born on January 31, 1988, in Las Minas, Dominican Republic you can say that Mozart La Para, real name Erickson Fernández, came from the “hood”. His name Mozart comes from writing songs early in his career for other artists, “La Para” (To Stop) is Dominican slang meaning the fear that his opponents would feel when the time came to freestyle face to face with him.

Mozart discovered his passion and talent for music when he was 12 years old and became part of the “underground” hip-hop movement in the Dominican Republic. At age 19 he started doing more “freestyle” and entered different competitions in the Dominican Republic like “La Batalla de los Gallos” sponsored by Red Bull, that although he did not win, it garnered him National attention. Mozart La Para’s style of music can best be described as “Urban Tropical”, a fusion of tropical and urban rhythms. Today he is the leader of the Urban movement in the Dominican Republic. His lyrics are infused with positive messages and a lot of the themes come from his own experiences. To listen to his music is to understand where he comes from.

His mission is to inspire others to follow their dreams and never give up. This was the main topic of the 2015 movie based on his life “Pueto Pa Mi” . The movie shared the struggles of what it is to be an upcoming artist trying to make their dreams come true. An inspiring story that moved the masses in the Dominican Republic breaking box office records. The movie resonated with his fans and became a phenomenon.

Mozart has won six Premios Soberano, the most prestigious awards show in the Dominican Republic. Four years in a row he has won the Premio Soberano del Público, this is the only award that fans get to vote. He was also recognized as Urban Artist of the Year in 2013 & 2016. In 2016 he received the Ministerio de la Juventud award during the Premio a la Excelencia Juan Pablo Duarte (Excellence Award Juan Pablo Duarte) for his contribution to Dominican society through his music.

In 2012 Mozart La Para invited Farruko to perform on the single “Si te pego cuernos”, a song that became a huge HIT in the General Latin Market. In the past few years Mozart La Para has gained international success with the hits “Pa’Gozar”, “Llegan lo montro man” and “Toy Enamorao” featuring Sharlene and Nacho (From Chino y Nacho), the single reached the TOP of the Billboard® Tropical songs chart. Mozart La Para performed “Toy Enamorao” at the 2016 Premios Heat in Capcana, Dominican Republic.

Mozart La Para has toured throughout the Dominican Republic, Latin America, Europe and the United States. He is currently Brand Ambassador in his country for: Adidas, Claro, and Leche Rica. In the past, he has also been a Brand Ambassador for Presidente, Kola Real, and Esponjoso. He was also part of a non-profit campaign against Domestic Violence.

In 2016 Mozart La Para made history as the first signed artist under the Roc Nation Latin division headed by multi-award winning singer Romeo Santos. On the signing, Romeo Santos commented: “Mozart La Para has created his own signature style fusing urban and tropical music and has created a unique sound for himself.”

Mozart La Para is busy recording what will be his debut album between Dominican Republic, Miami, Puerto Rico and New York City. For his debut album, he is experimenting with new sounds but still staying true to his signature style.
