No Bull is one of the most entertaining, high-octane, hard rock bands characterized by
blistering riffs, rough, gritty vocals, and timelessly catchy, anthemic choruses. The band
emerged from Sydney, Australia on the live music circuit in 2024, spearheaded by the prolific
James van Hest. Serving as lead guitarist and vocalist, van Hest along with Lachlan Pollard
(Lachie) on rhythm guitar (and drums when needed) and Cristobal Bergmann (Cris) on bass
are putting the "hard" back into hard rock with their undiluted, pure rock n' roll sound.
No Bull draws inspiration from the likes of AC/DC, Black Label Society, Metallica and
B.B.King. They deliver a loud, guitar driven sound that's been described as a blend of hard
rock, blues and metal. They may not specifically be a metal band but it’s mixed within their
style.
Van Hest's musical journey was profoundly influenced by AC/DC, a band he credits with
teaching him everything he knows about music. This foundational impact is evident in No
Bull's sound, particularly in the instrumental drive influenced by Phil Rudd's thick kick and
snare patterns and the glue of Cliff Williams' consistent eighth-note basslines. Van Hest's
bluesy lead guitar work channels the raw energy of Angus Young, while the band's overall
sound is a potent blend of gravelly hard rock with metallic undertones, moving beyond simple
genre categorization. James says it's his way of keeping alive what Angus and Malcolm
Young started with AC/DC.
No Bull is quickly making a name for themselves on the Sydney live music circuit, tearing up
stages at iconic venues like The Crowbar, Chuck Trailer’s and The Duke Of Enmore. No
Bull's electrifying performances have built them a reputation for leaving audiences
breathless, stunned, and begging for more, as evidenced by the 36 explosive live shows they
delivered in their first six months of performing together.
Van Hest has written numerous "ball breaking" songs across their
multiple full-length albums and releases. Their discography already
includes the 11 track 2022 album Stick It and the 10 track 2023 album
Unconscious. The band's relentless work ethic is
further highlighted by three more albums already
written by van Hest, promising a steady stream of new music for their
growing fanbase. Their next album, “Rock N Roll Remains Forever”,
with 11 skull crushing tracks is
anticipated for release in July 2025.
Beyond their regional dominance in New South Wales, No
Bull's music is making waves with both national and
international recognition. Their tracks have gained radio
airplay on stations from Australia to Russia to the USA,
reaching listeners in numerous countries and establishing
an audience on streaming platforms globally. The
worldwide recognition has generated requests for shows
in Europe, North and South America and Asia. With a
relentless tour schedule and their sights set on global domination, this homegrown Aussie
entertainment is introducing their high quality, pure rock n roll to the masses. As fans often
attest, if you try to talk to a friend or colleague the next day and they don't hear you, it's
probably because they went to a No Bull concert the night before.
