Pylon Reenactment Society Biography
PYLON REENACTMENT SOCIETY:
More than a tribute band. Pylon Reenactment Society have written new songs with Pylon as their guiding star. PRS have delighted old Pylon fans while making new ones. The band features original Pylon vocalist Vanessa Briscoe Hay, guitarist Jason NeSmith, bassist Kay Stanton and drummer Gregory Sanders.
Kay and Jason previously worked with Vanessa on the recording project Supercluster. Gregory was a member of Casper & the Cookies with Jason & Kay. Audio engineer Jason NeSmith was a co-producer for ‘Pylon Box’ along with Vanessa Briscoe Hay, Michael Lachowski and Henry Owings. He restored and remastered all the tracks. He is also known for mastering ‘Trouble No More’ the 50th Anniversary collection for The Allman Brothers for producer Bill Levenson.
PRS was formed in 2014 to play a few Pylon songs for a one-off show as part of an arts retrospective exhibit named Art Rocks Athens— appropriate as the members of Pylon had been art majors at UGA. Vanessa decided to call the project Pylon Reenactment Society— an inside joke among the original band members when they were relearning their material in the early 2000s. The Art Rocks Athens show was enthusiastically received. Encouraged, and with the surviving Pylon members’ blessings, Pylon Reenactment Society became a real band.
Requests for shows around the country and overseas came in. What had started as a one-off project, has now wowed both long-time fans who thought they would never get to see this music performed live—as well as younger fans who have just discovered Pylon.. The positive feedback provided impetus to keep moving forward and to write fresh material in the spirit of Pylon.
PRS have been lucky to share the stage with Fred Schneider, Dressy Bessy, Cindy Wilson, 75 Dollar Bill, KAG of Priests, Drivin and Cryin, Golden Apples, Chandra, Bongos, Gang of Four, Magnapop, The Smithereens, It’s Snakes, Kelly Stoltz, Vision Video, Teenage Fanclub — and more.
Since 2015 the band has released a 12” EP, a 7” single, a Bandcamp single, and five music videos. They released their first full length album ‘Magnet Factory’ February 9, 2024 to critical acclaim. Past festival and concert series appearances include Part Time Punks, Savannah Stopover, Sarasota Film Fest, U+N Fest, Barely Human Fest, Irrelevant Festival, Athens Popfest, Westobou, Arts & Draughts, Passafest, Primavera Sound 19, Athfest and SXSW 2024. They have been on whirlwind tours of the west coast and NE in conjunction with the release of their new album in 2024. A live concert was filmed in January 2019 for Athens Inside-Out 2: Red Turns Into Blue—a new documentary co-directed by Bill Cody and Tony Brazier which is now available on DVD, streaming services and for limited theater screenings.
