Jewish Monkeys

Jewish what?! ‘Yes’, they nod and shrug their shoulders, “Jews can call themselves that”. Their story begins in the boys' choir of the Frankfurt synagogue. It was there that some of the protagonists of the Jewish Monkeys met long before they founded the band project in Tel Aviv decades later. Accompanied by trombone, saxophone, electric guitar, bass and drums, the three singers take aim at the manifold weaknesses of humanity with a pronounced sense of nonsense and politically incorrect lyrics, without neglecting their own. Humour in the spirit of the Marx Brothers, Woody Allen, Larry David or even Seinfeld? Whether this humour is specifically Jewish remains to be seen. In any case, the Jewish Monkeys break all ethnic-religious taboos at their concerts and launch into an unparalleled satirical liberation, cloaked in Balkan klezmeresque rock music, performed in English and mixed with Yiddish 2.0. With this wild mixture, they get their audience dancing all over the place: Syrian refugees in refugee camps, anti-Pegida demonstrators in Dresden, culture-loving audiences in clubs and concert halls or hipsters in East London and the press are just as enthusiastic.
