The Pigeon Detectives Biography
With platinum and gold selling accolades across their catalogue of 5 albums The Pigeon Detectives return with their 6th studio album. A record influenced by their biggest hits but matured beyond them.
Feeling like a band reborn The Pigeon Detectives have never really gone away. Having spent the last 2 years playing headline tours and festivals the band saw a significant change in their audience, almost as if the raucous and up-tempo anthems they had been playing for years were the perfect antidote to 2 years of restrictions and mundanity. Repeatedly the Pigeon Detectives became the surprise highlight from festival line-ups for the people who had discovered them by accident or been out the loop in recent years; and an obvious must-see for those in the know.
Buoyed by the response at shows the band started writing music again. The goal was to capture the energy from gigs but also reflecting where they’d come as a group of friends who have been in a band together since school, often working against misconceptions of their band and ultimately getting stronger as a unit and sharing this connection with their fans.
Everything came together quickly and the band started recording the album in Liverpool with Rich Turvey (Blossoms / The Coral / Oscar Lang) in November 2022. The result is a Pigeon Detectives album that directly communicates the high-octane feel of their live shows with punchy arrangements and sing-along melodies, and lyrics that reflect the maturity of a band with 20 years of friendship behind them. Touching on fractured relationships, battered mental health and lofty ambitions the tracks reach further than any of the band’s previous material whilst staying true to what makes them such a tenacious fixture on the UK live scene.
