Steven Garcia Biography

Steven Garcia is a Love Sick Dog Publishing recording artist and full-time musician who has been touring and making music over the past 25 years. Currently, he can be found performing three to five nights a week in and around the Houston area with his band Not the Rachels, including every other Friday at the honkey-tonk Greek Brothers Oyster Bar and Grill in El Campo.

Steven has been a Love Sick Dog Publishing recording artist since 2011. The collaboration with owner and songwriter Frank Trevino has produced three albums, two movie soundtracks, and several singles (preproduction has begun for a 2025 full length album).

The first collaboration between the two camps produced “Will You or Won’t You”. After its release in January 2012, the song was quickly given Song of the Week (February 19 – 25, 2012) by the London Indie Rock magazine Jamsphere.

In 2015, Steven and LSDP started pre-production on a full-length rock album. This collaboration produced the 2016 12-song album 'Undiscovered' released in February 2016. The album can also be described as arena rock with a modern twist that tips its hat to the 80s.

In the Summer of 2016, Steven and LSDP were approached by director Juven Cavazos to create seven songs for the modern-day spaghetti western “A Lonely Woman”. The film was released on March 23, 2018, with Steven’s original movie soundtrack released on May 4, 2018. Two of the seven tracks, “The New Old West Showdown” and “Jezebel is Coming” are instrumentals with a heavy western rock guitar sound. “Annie’s Theme” and “Mi Vida '' are Spanish Western-influenced instrumentals. “Feel Me” is a hard-driving rock song, while “Aim for the Heart '' and the title track are great straightforward rock songs.

In 2019, Love Sick Dog Publishing released The LSDP Singles Collection. This featured previously released singles, unreleased tracks, and alternative versions of different material Steven recorded with LSDP.

On October 22, 2021, LSDP and Steven release a second 12-song album entitled 'Nowhere to be Found'. The songs contained a more Country Rock influence but still maintained a 90's rock and modern feel.

LSDP and Steven released an EP for the Movie Soundtrack Bright Ideas. The Ronn Head film stars Jeremy London, Tyler McElroy, and Chris Plaza. The EP includes "Your Possession", the movie love song. Steven has also been entrusted with the Bright Ideas theme song. This is the third movie soundtrack for Steven. He has also appeared on the soundtrack for Noble Things (2008) and A Lonely Woman (2018).

The Red-Carpet World Premiere of Bright Ideas was held on March 27, 2023, at the Regal Edwards Theater in Houston. The EP movie soundtrack was released on 11/24/2023.

Steven and LSDP released his third full solo album, Against the Peace and Dignity of the State, with Love Sick Dog Publishing on February 2, 2024. It is a heavier rock/country offering with a mix of 70's, 80's, and 90's rock genres. The album includes the songs Punk Rock song TMI and Country Rock songs 88 Miles Out of Hallettsville, and Ballad of the Working Man.

Steven Garcia is originally from Corpus Christi, Texas where he started playing guitar at 14. He moved to Houston at age 21 and formed the band The Rachels. As the main songwriter in the group, The Rachels musical style relied heavily on Steven’s influences from genres such as reggae, ska, country, rock, and pop with a heavy guitar sound. Some of his earlier work is surprisingly eclectic. His diversity enabled him to work with different producers and songwriters, including Paula Deanda producer Mike Aguirre and country songwriter Jason Greene.

The debut The Rachels album Buy American was released in 1999. They were then signed with Six-Tone Records in 2000 and released World of Dreams (2001). The relationship ended in late 2001.

The Rachels forged on as independents and grew accustomed to playing four to five nights a week. They headlined many events such as the Houston Marathon (1999), the Houston Grand Prix (2001), KLOL Holiday Ball, and the Astros opening day party (2000, 2004).

They developed a loyal Houston following with a reputation as a party band that could cover any song request. This branded them as a virtual jukebox in high demand with Houston bar owners and booking agents. It led to the opportunity to tour Japan in 2003, 2004, and 2005 with Lone Wolf Entertainment. Their popularity also granted them airplay on Houston’s KTBZ 94.5 and KLOL 101.1 radio stations. Many major clients such as Clear Channel Communications, Budweiser, and Rice University would request The Rachels to play at their events.

Steven wrote and produced the independently released The Rachels album St. Elmo Sessions in 2003. The Rachels unofficially disbanded in 2004 as a live band.

Steve continued to record under the name The Rachels with the release of No Love Here in 2006.

Steven was signed to Clay Walker’s publishing company as a staff songwriter from 2006 - 2011. This led to Steven’s song “I Can’t Complain” being featured in the 2008 Noble Things movie starring Brett Moses and Ryan Hurst.

After being released from Clay Walker's publishing company, Steven formed the cover group Not the Rachels. The name aimed at a way to distance himself from The Rachels, as many fans mistook the cover group for the original The Rachels.

Steven continued to record as The Rachels in studio form only. He independently released Aim for the Heart (2017), Crashing into Walls (2018), Save the Robots (2018), Corpus Christi (2019) and Evil Toes (2019).

Steven is currently producing a heavier rock project that may be released in 2025 under The Rachels name or under a side project named band.
