dj poolboi Biography
dj poolboi is the moniker of Austin Texas’ resident Adam Ansley. In 2017 Ansley started quietly releasing lo-fi house music under the moniker as a side project. An upload of his track “we can be happy on the popular EELF Youtube channel began to pick up viral tracktion and attention. Channelling his own struggles Ansley crafted a unique form of electronic music creating emotional melodic house and instrumental songs mixing elation and nostalgia with melancholy.
Residing in the same vein of underground house as Ross From Friends and Baltra while building on the experimental dance music of trailblazers such as Radiohead, Four Tet, Caribou and Jamie XX his music found its own niche taking flight online.
With a strong visual presence from his many music videos, poolboi has quickly amassed almost 100k subscribers on Youtube. With over 50 million streams to date the artist began landing coveted opening gigs across North America.
The artists debut LP “it’s good to hear your voice” came out in March of 2020. Connecting with audiences for its calming aesthetic during the intense global panic at the start of pandemic the album came out on Berlin based label Majestic Casual. An official remix for Moby followed and an EP for the trendsetting underground house focused UK label Shall Not Fade.
The artist has now released three lead up singles from his upcoming sophomore album. Showcasing a growth in sound working with featured artists from around the globe exploring indie electronic crossover territory with Canadian bedroom pop artist FLOOR CRY on “motions”, South Korea’s Su Lee on “i don’t really mind”. The artist is now set to release a new EP on Shall Not Fade this fall and now announces his sophomore LP with an exciting international array of collaborators and features titled “stay a little while longer” out March 18th 2022.
With the new wave of lo-fi hip-hop setting a relaxed soundtrack across the world, there are not many artists that do it quite as rapturously as Austin, Texas-based artist dj poolboi” - EARMILK
“there's a rising star within the lo-fi house movement making waves across the internet. He goes by the name dj poolboi and something that's quite paradoxical is the somewhat tongue-in-cheek name, compared to the depth and the emotion conveyed within his craft.” - Stereofox
