DAMOYEE Biography
DAMOYEE is an award-winning jazz vocalist, composer, musician, and singer-songwriter, originally from Dallas, Texas, USA. Known for her remarkable musicianship, luminous voice, and sonic versatility, she seamlessly floats through an array of genres while playing multiple instruments and layering several vocal parts in her self-composed and produced recorded music and live shows. As an artist whose music transcends genres and captivates diverse audiences, her acclaimed work has been featured in films, at festivals, and on stages, radio stations, and many platforms internationally.
Since the age of two, DAMOYEE has been playing piano, followed by studying music theory and composition to establish her own musical thumbprint built on an intrapersonal understanding of her art. Growing up, she struggled to find her voice as a singer and found inspiration from the soulful musings of artists like Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, and John Legend, who she credits as giving her the courage to sing while playing her instrument. As she began charting her journey as a pianist and storyteller with ethereal and enchanting vocals, she was performing her own original music throughout her hometown by the age of 10. Her first stage performances included Levitt Pavilion and the legendary main stage at House of Blues Dallas. As a young teen, she quickly began nourishing her gift by learning several other instruments, including guitar, bass, ukulele, melodica, and dulcimer, to name a few, as well as electronic music production. This led to her exploring various projects, including self-releasing an album at just 16 years old, landing performances at New Orleans Jazz Fest and Gov Ball Music Festival, and composing an original score for AT&T — all while still in high school. DAMOYEE graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, an alma mater shared by the likes of Erykah Badu, Norah Jones, Edie Brickell, Roy Hargrove, and Shaun Martin. After high school, she attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship and earned a bachelor’s degree in film scoring.
Her 2019 album, The Whole Truth, charted internationally and garnered praise from publications like Dallas Observer and Central Track, which respectively dubbed her “Best Vocalist” and “Best Female Vocalist” in Dallas. Now, at 24, the multi-hyphenate composer, musician, singer, songwriter, and producer has parlayed her inherent musical skills and talents into several noteworthy solo releases, many high-profile awards, industry placements with top artists like DC The Don and 2x diamond-certified Bryson Tiller, shout-outs from GRAMMY Award-winning and multi-platinum producer/recording artist Timbaland, and multiple deals with brands such as Meta, Coca-Cola, AT&T, Cartoon Network, FX x Hulu, Roland, Bose, and Walgreens. Her unique artistry has garnered acclaim from the likes of GRAMMYs, NPR, Entertainment Weekly, EBONY, American Songwriter, PAPER, Consequence, FLOOD, and more. Having spent the past few years bolstering her craft, DAMOYEE has found deeper meaning in the trials and triumphs of life, love, self-discovery, and the reclamation of her womanhood. Her 2024 three-volume project, PURPLEXED, explores those themes and unites color, sound, and emotion in an autobiographical coming of age amalgam of pop, R&B, electronic, jazz, and folk. Through illuminating soundscapes and evocative lyricism, her musicianship, storytelling, and producer merit take center stage as she pushes past introversion and the fear of vulnerability to let listeners flip through her diary. Her music has reverberated throughout the viral ethers of multiple social platforms, including TikTok and Instagram, where she has amassed a collective audience in the hundreds of thousands of followers. Moving forward, DAMOYEE remains focused on sharing her voice and music with the world.
