What fans are saying

OCCERITA
September 28th 2024
September 27th 2024 at 8:41 p.m. Long Beach California time this is Rita Oliver speaking vocalists of R&B jazz AKA which will be my birth name Occerita Marie Oliver. I must say August 31st 2024 was indeed a day to reckon with I attended the concert let me tell you it was indeed OUTSTANDING! In my book it was well organized and everything primarily was labeled including the map that I saw the people were indeed enjoying themselves from what I could see and there was no disturbance to my knowledge. I was there for the entire day I really and truly enjoyed myself I had a chance to see all of the entertainers every one of them and I have to admit every one of them didn't excellent immaculate job and to be out there with all that HEAT LET ME TELL YOU THERE IS NO WAY YOU COULD HAVE HAD A BETTER SHOW EVERYONE IN ATTENDANCE FROM WHERE I WAS STANDING WASN'T PERFECT HARMONY I GRANT YOU THIS I DID HAVE VIP SEATING BUT IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET TO MY SEATING AREA THE USHERS THERE WERE VERY HELPFUL I CAME I PRESENTED MYSELF INCLUDING MY TICKET AND EVERYTHING AND I HAD MY WALKER WITH ME THEY GUIDED ME THROUGH THE AUDIENCE IN ORDER TO GET TO THE VIP AREA I DID NOT WANT TO DISTURB NOBODY EVERYONE WAS HAVING SUCH A WONDERFUL TIME AND THEY WERE NOT ANGRY WITH ME COMING THROUGH WITH MY WALKER AND THE USHERS SO I THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT I REALLY DO I HAD A GREAT! TIME. WHAT I HAD GOT UP TO LEAVE TO GO TO ANOTHER AREA TO SEE THE OTHER SHOWS THE PEOPLE WERE VERY COURTEOUS SO I WAS ABLE TO LEAVE AS WELL BUT AS AN OVERALL IT WAS EXCELLENTLY DONE THE ENTIRE EVENT AND PEOPLE WERE IN PERFECT HARMONY FOR A CHANGE AND THAT PLEASE ME EVEN MORE IN SPITE OF ALL THE HEAT AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE PEOPLE REALLY WENT WELL WITH EACH OTHER AND I THANK GOD FOR THAT TOO. The only drawback I had was when the concert was over I hated for all the artists to leave and I had to leave too of course because it was dark number one and I got lost on my car got lost was for like that LOL and someone had to help me get to my car this gentleman and his coworker this lady they put me in there little jitney cart is it and they drove around until I spotted my car and then they checked to make sure I was okay and waited until I got into my car and then they left but as an overall that was the only drawback for me I admit I will go to another concert I have such a good time I love the old classic cars that was on display I really enjoyed them and everything else that was going on and the huge map they had there to show you where you are and the areas so you can get back to where you wanted to be that was a very good idea and I liked it because it was in color so that made it nice easier to identify as an overall I really don't think the people could have asked for anything anymore I don't think so this is just my own opinion of how I felt about the concert I wish I had been an artist performing on the concert however but I performed in the audience LOL with the different songs that the artists were singing and I believe I had an audience literally watching me versus watching the stage if that makes any sense and people actually you know realize that I could sing and then they started asking me questions about it and I told him I've been in music over 45 years and I've been singing at one time I was a dancer with my singing and they were shocked because they watch me with my Walker and how I'm maneuver myself with the Walker even to the music and they would just shocked I say this is something I do but we laughed about it and had a good time some people even made a little space so I would bump wouldn't be bumped or anything while I was singing doing my thing with the people on the stage but as an overall we all I think had a wonderful time and they were more shocked at me because I'm out with my Walker by myself and I'm entertaining myself basically with the people on the stage and I'm not paying attention to the audience the other people who's around me in the audience who's looking at the show as well they're watching me sing and keep up and timing with the people on stage and then that's when they started asking me more questions but as an overall you guys did an excellent job you really did I hope you have others like that again because that is something that's really needed to bring the people together on one Accord I thank you very much for the concert and I do hope you have others I'm hoping to go to Catalina area and attend their concerts over there on the island those are things that you should be broadcasting as well not only because of Catalina having its own casino but I'm just saying shows that could go over there but as an overall let it be a safe trip because you have to travel the ocean to get from San Pedro to Catalina Island but again thank you for such a wonderful day August 31st 2024 and the way you had it set up that was quite interesting the way your things was set up and color coded and it matched the map as well that made it interesting even more to me I just wish I had been performing per se like the artists who on stage instead I'm in the audience but it was still a wonderful day and God made it even better because it was nice and hot and people were enjoying themselves so that made it nice and the planes that was over here spotting the spot playing is what I call them they were definitely on their job watching everybody from the air to make sure things was going okay and I had just said one little incident because I had lost my car in the VIP parking now that could have been set up just a wee bit different make it a little easier for people to find their cars but other than that it's still worked out so yes this is Occerita M. Oliver AKA Rita Oliver Vocalist of R&B Jazz writing you right now. I was looking at some more shows that's how I ended up doing this because you had the piece one to know how I like your program and I wasn't expecting that either but I have no problems with giving you what I thought and what a GREAT TIME I had and for the people who assisted me while I was in the park itself I gave them my business card to tell them thank you for taking time out of their own schedules to give me directions on which way to go things like this so it still worked out very well I think and I will attend another one that you have I still could not operate your bracelet someone else had to do it for me but I did have my my ID and my license for handicap things like that in my hand and when they saw that then they helped me get my bracelet up so I wouldn't have any issues or changes so I really thank them for that because I really don't know how to do your bracelets and when I had my card that you had sent to me I took up on myself and put my name on my card so in case I lost it since I was in the VIP section but I did not lose my card so that made it nice but my name helped out on my card and my bracelet and my ID everything was in conjunction of each other so people gave me the workers gave me a helping hand thank you again for a wonderful time Because I drove from Long Beach to go to that event.

Charlie Wilson Biography

13 time Grammy nominee. Showman extraordinaire. Hit-making singer/songwriter whose second act is trumping his legendary first run. Not many contemporary artists can lay claim to such superlatives. Charlie Wilson can.

And now he can add Best Selling Author to his list of credits. His memoir, “I Am Charlie Wilson,” released on June 30, 2015 is a New York Times Best Seller and Washington Post Best Seller as well as receiving an honorary mention for non-fiction from the Black Caucus of American Library Associations, Inc.

And Wilson, co-founder of iconic funk trio the Gap Band, has no intentions of slowing down. He kicked off 2015 with a new album, Forever Charlie released January 27, and his eight-week sold out Forever Charlie national arena tour, which kicked off on February 12. With audiences still clamoring for more of “Uncle Charlie,” he hit the road again on May 28 adding a second leg of the tour and again performing to sold-out houses.

Forever Charlie, Wilson’s sixth solo album, locked in yet another top ten hit single for Wilson “Goodnight Kisses.” This record rings up a grand total of 18 hits thus far on a tally that also includes eight No. 1s, among them “My Love Is All I Have,” “You Are,” “There Goes My Baby,” “Charlie Last Name Wilson,” and “Without You.”

Charlie kicked off 2016 with two Grammy nominations—Best Traditional R&B Performance for “My Favorite Part of You,” and Best R&B Album for “Forever Charlie.” He has also received three 2016 NAACP Image Awards nominations, Outstanding Male Artist, Outstanding Song for “Goodnight Kisses,” and Outstanding Album for “Forever Charlie.”

In addition to his solo accolades Wilson has been a much sought after mentor with numerous top singer/songwriter/producers who he considers his “nephews” including Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, Snoop Dogg and Jamie Foxx. He has added a new name to that all star list, UK soul singer John Newman. Wilson is featured on Newman’s new single and music video for “Tiring Game” from Newman’s second album, Revolve, released in the UK on October 16, 2015.

Of course, you can’t talk about Wilson’s staying power without referencing his explosive live show. Averaging 50-60 concerts a year, the indefatigable performer has become a must-see, can’t-top staple at the annual Essence Festival. He counts a total of eight performances there so far with his seventh consecutive performance this summer. And that’s not counting repeat headlining stints at other major urban festivals: Macy’s Music Festival, Hampton Jazz, San Diego Music Festival, Las Vegas Music Festival and the Arizona Jazz Festival.

And who can forget the roof-raising lifetime achievement tribute to Wilson at the BET Awards in 2013. The star-studded performance, featuring Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg, Jamie Foxx and India Arie, remains one of the annual award show’s singular, top-rated moments.

The monumental respect that Wilson garners from peers and fans alike is a testament to the creative, performing and survival skills he honed during his initial career heyday with the Gap Band. Raised by a minister father and mother, the Tulsa, Oklahoma native was a founding member of the pivotal R&B/funk trio, which hit the charts running in the late ‘70s and ‘80s with a string of hits including “Outstanding, “ “You Dropped A Bomb On Me,” “Yearning For Your Love,” Early In The Morning” and All of My Love.” The Group retired in 2010.

Working through the lows of drug and alcohol addiction – and sober now for 21 years – a formerly homeless Wilson signed to Jive (folded into RCA in 2012) in 2004 after landing his first No. 1 BILLBOARD Urban AC hit in 2000, “Without You.” His gold-certified Jive debut, 2005’s Charlie Last Name Wilson, yielded a top 15 R&B single via the title track. Uncle Charlie arrived in 2009, securing two Grammy nominations: Best R&B Album and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for the hit single “There Goes My Baby.” A year later, Wilson stepped back up to the plate with Just Charlie and his biggest hit to date, “You Are.” Spending 13 consecutive weeks at No. 1, the song scored Grammy nods for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance. That was followed in 2013 by Love, Charlie, which spun off the hit “My Love Is All I Have.”

“Looking back, I wouldn’t have believed I’d be where I am right now,” says Wilson. “That’s why I shout every night at my concerts because I thank God for allowing me to be here.”

Wilson gives back just as hard offstage. Now in remission following a bout with prostate cancer, he became a spokesperson for the Prostate Cancer Foundation in 2008 to promote awareness and educate the male community about a disease that afflicts one in six American men and one in three African-American men. Most recently, Wilson participated in the Stand Up 2 Cancer telethon in 2014.

Throughout his long running career, Wilson has stayed true to who he is musically and creatively while simultaneously raising the bar each time. In addition to his eleven Grammy nominations, the 2009 Soul Train Icon Award and the BET Awards’ 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award, Wilson is a 2005 BMI Icon Award honoree, was named Billboard’s No. 1 Adult Artist in 2009 and received the Trumpet Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
