About this concert
Ashley Daneman is a jazz singer known for her emotionally rich, intimate sound that blends literary depth with experimental jazz. Her latest album, People Are Fragile (Flood Music), explores themes of loss, healing, and renewal. Originally from Toledo, Ohio, Daneman studied classical voice and performed in musicals before turning to jazz and songwriting in her twenties. She honed her craft in Washington, DC, New York City, and on tour throughout the U.S. A former resident artist at the Kennedy Center’s Betty Carter’s JazzAhead and the Banff Centre’s Jazz and Creative Workshop, she earned her master’s degree from Manhattan School of Music under the mentorship of Peter Eldridge, Kate McGarry, and Theo Bleckmann. Her debut release Beauty Indestructible was named a DownBeat “Editor’s Pick” and drew praise from All About Jazz and Step Tempest, with comparisons to Becca Stevens, Laura Nyro, and even Stephen Sondheim. Ashley Daneman Biography

“an intriguing balance between the soaring virtuosity of Joni Mitchell and the earthy Americana of Becca Stevens” - Michael West, Downbeat

Feel. every. word. Whether she’s singing originals, jazz standards, African-American Spirituals, or folk songs, you’ll feel the emotional depths in her vulnerable approach. With her band of jazz musicians, they’ll surround you with lush, healing music to nurture your soul and offer up their fellowship.

For the deep listeners, the seekers, and the healers, sometimes…there’s not a dry eye in the house.
