Riffin' Griffin Biography

Why should adults get all the all the rock bangers?

Enter Riffin' Griffin: a four-piece rock band for kids and families from Minneapolis, MN. It started as a solo project by Jesse Norell, following his 2022 solo album Aorta Borealis, which gained attention from WCCO4 TV, Fox9, and Good Morning America. Jesse’s daughter, Alyssa, who inspired him to write Aorta Borealis after she survived two heart surgeries, also inspired him to start a band for kids.

Riffin’ Griffin is known for their energetic, audience engaging, participation-fueled live shows. It’s arena rock without the cavernous rooms, outlandish ticket prices or the nightmarish parking. Riffin’ Griffin has rocked schools, parks, libraries, hospitals, and MPR’s Rock the Cradle in 2024. Many more shows to come!

Drawing the Silver Lining is Riffin’ Griffin’s second album. The first was 2024’s Raising A Ruckus, an album of 14 silly songs that heavily feature his two kids. Drawing the Silver Lining is a five-song EP that tackles some more serious subject matter (more on that below). The title refers to the idea that kids can do more than just SEE the positives in difficult situations, but they can CREATE the positives themselves.

The concepts tackled on Drawing the Silver Lining are universal, especially in the sense that they should not just be applied to young people. Could we avoid wars if we practiced the kindness we were supposed to learn as kids? Could we lower anxiety as adults if we learned and practiced daily self-acceptance from a young age? Could adults avoid explosive bursts of anger if we learned to self-regulate early in life when the stakes are lower? If kids and their adults can work on these things together, everyone will see the benefits. Maybe these songs can plant positive seeds and provide conversation starters for families.
