Mateo y Las Manos Pesadas Biography

Mateo y Las Manos Pesadas is a charismatic band led by the singer, artist, and songwriter Mateo. Based out of Colorado, USA, the five-piece ensemble has taken their music on a global journey, sharing their unique sound and heartfelt storytelling with audiences worldwide.

Blending traditional songwriting traditions with influences from genres as folk, rock, and Americana, the band’s music is enriched by a distinctive Latin American flavor, which is also characterized by their well-received debut-album “48” from 2019. Mateo’s artistry shines through his captivating storytelling, chronicling a spiritual journey within his music. His songwriting, usually just crafted on guitar and his soulful voice, creates an intimate and compelling frame for his lyrics.

Drawing inspiration from musical legends like Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, and Paul Simon, Mateo y Las Manos Pesadas carries a timeless quality while carving out a sound uniquely their own. The band is well-known for their live performances that fill concert halls and venues. Mateo’s ability to connect with audiences and deliver an unforgettable musical experience makes them a must-see act; “When I am playing music, even if only a one person is listening in some tiny bar, It's such an honor to be up there; it does me a world of good.”

Whether on stage or on record, Mateo y Las Manos Pesadas is a celebration of storytelling, melody, and the shared human experience. Mateo and the band are currently finalizing their second studio album, in close collaborations with esteemed musicians such as Leo Castiblanco, Boston Rex, Diego Cadavid, Max Martínez and Adam Stern. Under the direction of Venezuelan producer Alfred Gómez Jr., the album is being recorded and mixed by Eduardo López and mastered by Brian Lucey.
