AVERY LEE
Avery Lee and the Sweeties blend folk storytelling with the energy of '90s pop-country, rooted in the rhythms of life in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Their music and work is a rejection and resistance to gendered expectations and disenfranchisement of the working class. Lee’s lyrics confront norms of smallness, shame, and humility in the midsouth, and ask audiences to do the same. Their onstage presence is stern yet inquisitive, verging on confrontational. The resulting sound is a dance between softness and intensity. The music weaves gentle folk melodies with punk-inspired grit, punctuated by guitar riffs that echo the soulful twang of a pedal steel, creating a sound that’s as emotionally grounded as it is dynamic.
EMILY FENTON
Emily Fenton is an artist from Little Rock, Arkansas with roots in Ithaca and New York City. Her music absorbs the raw honesty of folk, charming melodies of country, and irreverent attitude of rock ‘n’ roll to create a sound as unique and personal as the message they carry. Fenton’s autobiographical songwriting and vocal style evoke a nostalgia reminiscent of 90s Lilith Fair. An affinity for cut-to-the-chase lyrics and a fascination for psychedelic concept albums led to the creation of her first full-length album, Hello, from Planet Earth. The album was recorded live at the White Water Tavern in Little Rock, AR in the summer of 2022.
LUKE CALLEN
Luke Callen is originally from the river town of La Crosse, WI-the heart of the Driftless Region-and currently lives in Minneapolis, MN by way of Colorado. A teller of tall tales and a singer of short tunes-Luke lugs around a couple of guitars-a few harmonicas and even a banjo if he has to. A simple writer and liver who cares more about his cast irons than he does about his interweb streams.

Avery Lee Biography
Avery Lee & the Sweeties
Avery Lee (they/them) is a dynamic singer-songwriter from Fayetteville, AR, known for their sharp lyricism and commanding stage presence. As the lead vocalist of The Phlegms, a beloved Northwest Arkansas post-punk band with five EPs, a new single and full length album coming out in July. Lee has shared stages with Shame, Protomartyr, Mannequin Pussy, Hawthorne Heights, and Calvin Johnson. Their songwriting challenges societal norms, urging audiences to rethink gender roles, expectations, and the quiet pressures of conformity.
Now fronting Avery Lee and the Sweeties, Lee channels the psychological weight of these themes through a fusion of folk storytelling and the infectious energy of '90s pop-country. Their music is an outright rejection of gendered expectations and the disenfranchisement of the working class. Through raw, unflinching lyricism, Lee dismantles the culture of politeness, smallness, and shame ingrained in the Midsouth—inviting listeners to do the same.
Onstage, their presence is both stern and inquisitive, verging on confrontational. The band's sound is a delicate dance between softness and intensity, blending gentle folk melodies with punk-inspired grit. Guitar riffs echo the soulful twang of a pedal steel, creating a sonic landscape that is as emotionally resonant as it is dynamic.
With a voice that moves between vulnerability and defiance, Avery Lee continues to carve out a space where music becomes both a protest and a call to action.
