Composed in 1947, Requiem is one of Duruflé’s most celebrated works, blending ancient chant melodies with impressionistic harmonies and rich orchestral textures. Unlike the dramatic intensity of other well-known requiem settings, Duruflé’s interpretation is deeply meditative and luminous, offering a message of comfort and rest rather than fear and judgment. This special performance will feature Dr. Sarah Simko on organ. Dr. Simko is the Associate Organist and Communications Coordinator at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Detroit, as well as Adjunct Faculty Instructor of Organ at Madonna University. A distinguished performer and scholar, she has appeared in recitals at venues such as Methuen Memorial Music Hall, St. Paul’s Cathedral (London, Ontario), and Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor.
