WHY WON'T YOU DIE Biography
Why Won't You Die is a crust punk/death metal band formed in 2014 by Tony Avila as a solo project. Around 12 songs were written, recorded, and demoed soon after. Then, later in 2015, a live band was formed. Why Won’t You Die released a tape in 2015 and a CD on Retreat To Nowhere Records in 2018. The live band had a few line-up changes over the years and ended up breaking up in 2019.
Why Won't You Die reformed in 2023 with a new line-up and is composed of Tony Avila (World of Lies, Aborted Cop, Dead End America) on vocals and guitar, Rodney Garcia (XSavageX) on vocals and guitar, Paul Calhoun (Aborted Cop) on vocals and bass, and John Lichtenberg (Crime Machine & BadXMouth) on drums.
Why Won't You Die has played shows with Brujeria, Catheter, Pinata Protest, Capitalist Casualties, Hummingbird of Death, The Accused AD, M.D.C., Vivisick (Japan), Cattle Decapitation, The Drip, Cliterati, Dying Fetus, Incantation, Gatecreeper, Eyehategod, Cro-Mags, Belphegor, and Cryptopsy, among others.
A new track "Hero Turned Villain", has been recorded with a new line-up and will be released soon. Why Won't You Die's first performance with the band will be at Harshest 5 in Montesano, WA, on Saturday, June 17th, 2023.
