About this concert
Trumpet great Sean Jones leads the latest lineup of NYO Jazz, Carnegie Hall’s evolving big band of amazing young jazz musicians from across the United States. This year’s performance features Grammy Award–winning vocalist Luciana Souza in a special set that highlights Brazilian composers, including Antônio Carlos Jobim and Ivan Lins. The band’s stylistic range is highlighted further in pieces by Count Basie, John Clayton, Christian McBride, Vince Mendoza, Maria Schneider, and more, plus newly commissioned music by Dafnis Prieto, “one of the most multidimensional artists working today” (JazzTimes), whose music is “a marvel of acrobatic musicianship” (The New York Times). The exciting program also features the band’s first-ever arrangement commissioned by an alum: trumpeter Janelle Finton.
