About this concert
City Winery NYC presents Josh Joplin Group live on Friday, April 4th at 7:30 pm For Josh Joplin Group one gap year from playing shows pluralized and became a nearly decades long hiatus from touring. With that in mind, City Winery is thrilled to announce Josh Joplin Group is returning to New York City for the first time in years to celebrate the release of their 12th full length album, aptly titled, GpYr Saturday April 4th at 7:30. Produced by Joplin and Grammy-winning producer Lorenzo Wolff, known for his work on Taylor Swift’s Midnights and Folklore, GpYr captures the raw vitality of a live session with meticulous attention to texture and detail. The result is a collection of songs that highlight Joplin’s storytelling prowess has been a hallmark of his career since the release of Useful Music in 2001, which introduced the world to the #1 hit Camera One. Produced by Talking Heads’ Jerry Harrison, the song became a cultural touchstone, featured on Scrubs, and solidified Joplin’s reputation for making the deeply personal feel universal. As he explains, “It’s the kinda song you probably heard while pursuing aisle nine at the grocery store.” His career highlights also include Blue Skies Again, which was covered by Jessica Lea Mayfield on her critically acclaimed Nonesuch debut Tell Me, earning over a million downloads on iTunes. As 30A founder and legendary Indigo Girl/Matthew Sweet manager Russell Carter recently said of Joplin “...I am willing to bet Josh has written a bad song but I can tell you I have never heard one.” If you have ever wanted to see Josh Joplin Group play what TimeOut London calls a “a high energy live show…” and Paste praises as “... part Armed Forces, Elvis Costello, with Woody Guthrie’s bent for storytelling…” get your tickets NOW! If the past is prologue, this show will sell-out!

Josh Joplin Group Biography
Josh Joplin, is not given to reminiscing much about the glory days of chasing a song around the world. Camera One notched up the charts making it the first independently released song to land #1 at Triple A Top 40 on legendary showbiz titan's, Daniel Glass and Danny Goldberg, storied label, Artemis Records, (J. Mascis, Steve Earle, The Pretenders, Kittie, AND infamous hit makers, The BaHa Men)... Though Josh never quite “let the dogs out” with his only hit, it is featured on the cult classic, Scrubs. He followed it up in 2002 with The Future That Was produced by Rob Gal (Magnapop, Rock-a-Teens) and later the critically praised albums, Jaywalker, Among The Oak & Ash, and Devil Ship. Recently, Joplin has returned to recording music with his friends and collaborators. JJG's new record, GpYr will be released April 4th 2025.
GpYr is somewhere between a concept and a photo album. It's about a time when over the course of a summer and autumn, four friends who will never be closer again, came together, and created a plan. They set out to save Seely from a therapeutic boarding facility in remote New England, and in doing so they rescued one another.
Josh Joplin Group will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of his album Useful Music (featuring “Camera One”) in Fall 2025.
