About this concert
First Church of Somerville presents...Heather Mae!
Heather Mae is the voice of radical authenticity and she doesn’t just write songs—she writes revolutions. A genre-defying, boundary-breaking artist-activist, Mae blends the grit of alternative rock, the infectious hooks of indie pop, and the soul of folk storytelling to create anthems for the outsiders, the survivors, and the seekers of radical joy. Her music is an unflinching mirror held up to the world, reflecting back the struggles and triumphs of mental health, queer liberation, survivor empowerment, and the fight for justice.
In 2025, Mae will release “WHAT THEY HID FROM ME” (alternative) and “kiss & tell” (pop), a double album project that serves as both a reckoning and a reclamation. These two bodies of work explore the pain of unlearning, the fire of self-discovery, and the freedom of living unapologetically. Produced entirely by women and nonbinary music makers in Nashville, these albums are more than just music—they are a movement.

Heather Mae Biography
Heather Mae is an award-winning songwriter whose evocative vocals and rhythmic piano style creates intoxicating music that tackles complex topics surrounding mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, self-love, racial injustice, social inequality, and women’s rights. Her newest project, GLIMMER, is a collection of nine songs supporting one central theme:” Feel To Heal.” Within the grooves of the new album, Mae wrestles with the complexities of existing as a human with mental illness. From her #MeToo-inspired feminist anthem “Warrior,” featuring a choir of 100+ female vocalists, to “You Are My Favorite”, a love song written for her wife inspired by her own wedding vows which will surely be the 2019 wedding soundtrack for LGBTQ+ couples, Mae shows she’s nothing less than a powerhouse. She has examined her struggle with Bipolar Disorder from every angle in order to create her most sonically adventurous set of recordings yet--and to remind us that we aren’t alone.
