Da spricht jemand. Er braucht das und mal hört den Nachdruck. Mehrfach durfte oder konnte Christoph Pepe Auer während der vergangenen Jahren nicht spielen. Erst war es ein Bergunfall, dann eine Operation, die ihn daran hinderten, seine Instrumente zur Hand zu nehmen. Für einen Musiker ist das eine Strafe, unverschuldet und daher umso unverständlicher. Es ist aber auch ein Aufgabe. Denn ein markanter Einschnitt in einer Künstlerbiographie kann auch zu mehr Klarheit führen: „Ich habe am Klang gearbeitet. Es sollte bei meiner aktuellen Band kein Bass dabei sein. Die Idee war eine Form von Durchlässigkeit, wie das Auftauchen aus dem Wasser, das einem den Kopf freimacht. Außerdem wollte ich Kontrabassklarinette spielen, das heißt auch da mit einem Sound arbeiten, den sich so vorher noch nicht viel eingesetzt hatte.“

Christoph Pepe Auer Biography
Christoph Pepe Auer is a cosmopolitan musician and composer who is living in Vienna / Austria, studied in Stockholm and New York. His Music is based on Jazz, but is also influenced by Contemporary, Classical, African and Folk Music.
By pushing the instruments Bass Clarinet and Saxophone to the limits he discovered new techniques, for that he is also known for. His creative approach also led him to invent his own instrument, the Pepephon, or brought him an invitation to a film festival with his self made video called ‘Warming up on a bass clarinet’.
He achieved playing his music at Jazz Clubs like „The Jazz Standard“ in New York or “Forbidden City Hall’ Bejing and was awarded with the „Austrian Newcomer Hans Koller Prize“.
The pioneer on bass clarinet is also the founder of a jazz label called Session Work Records, which is representing a big amount of the Austrian music scene and beyond.
Studied or collaborated with Adam Holzman (Miles Davis), Branford Marsalis (Sting), Vienna Art Orchestra.
