Bob's Dock Biography
“Fans of such wide-ranging artists as Genesis, Dire Straits, Arcade Fire, Rush,

LocalSpins.com.

‘Don’t look back to your favorite places … don’t look back, they’re just empty
spaces.’
That line from “The Mystic” says a lot about the songcraft and mission of the
eclectic, progressive alt-rock band Bob’s Dock.
While the band may look back to channel some of its musical influences, Bob’s
Dock is all about moving forward with infectious rock underpinnings rife with
insightful, penetrating themes.
“Some artists are all about entertaining their audience with their music, but
others have a deeper goal. They want to make a genuine connection,” muses
guitarist and singer Jason Heath. “This is the case of Bob’s Dock.”
Formed in 2017, the Grand Rapids band – Heath; bassist, singer and keyboardist
Brian Kleinsmith, guitarist Josh Sanders and drummer Tim Church – has fashioned
a remarkable debut collection of songs steeped in progressive retro-rock with
soaring vocals and pop-hued hooks.
It’s a sonic attack honed from years of plying their musical trade with other bands
and projects: Kleinsmith spent years in Taiwan propelling various jazz and rock
bands, Heath, a Canadian native, was a member of the popular West Michigancow-punk band Brother Howe, Church is classically trained and performed with
the Grand Rapids Symphony after college. Sanders played guitar with Darwin
Finch before founding Bob’s Dock with Jason.
Together, they meld styles and inspirations “to create something much more
adventurous than pop, but still resonates on an accessible level,” the band
suggests.
Indeed, the storytelling adventure of “The Mystic” – recorded at Grand Haven’s
renowned Third Coast Recording Co. with Raziel Castaneda – revolves around the
life’s struggles of its central character, Bob, who turns to nostalgia for comfort, but
in the process loses touch with what’s really important.
“Adults who like classic and progressive rock will likely embrace our music – or
people who appreciate music and not just play it in the background,” says Heath.
The concept album being released on May 9th is just the first salvo from this upand-coming Michigan band that’s already working on its next recording project
while performing across the region.
As the band proclaims prophetically on “The Mystic”: “Nothing can stop me now,
I’m feeling good, I’m feeling fine.”
