About this concert
An immersive experience at the crossroads of film, AI-driven visual art, and jazz and electronic music, celebrating composer Krzysztof Komeda. This innovative audio-visual project celebrates the enduring legacy of a pioneer of Polish jazz and one of the most influential composers in European cinema, bringing his visionary music to life through a modern lens. At the heart of the project are iconic scenes from films scored by Komeda, masterfully re-envisioned by Kajetan Szostok, an award-winning visual artist known for his storytelling through AI-enhanced imagery. These cinematic moments are transformed into striking visual narratives, creating a rich tapestry of past and present. The musical dimension is equally compelling: masterminded by Blanka Barbara, Komeda’s timeless jazz compositions are reinvented, merging his evocative melodies with the dynamic energy of contemporary electronic and acoustic music. A diverse ensemble of musicians drives this reinvention: electronic artists Late Arrivals join forces with renowned jazz singer Alice Zawadzki and an exquisite trio featuring Emma Rawicz on saxophone, Jonny Mansfield on vibraphone, and Freddie Jensen on double bass. Together, they craft an electrifying dialogue between the experimental edge of electronic soundscapes and the improvisatory essence of jazz. This event is part of the 23rd Kinoteka Polish Film Festival and is organised with the support of the Polish Cultural Institute in London.

Alice Zawadzki Biography

Loosely connected to the jazz world but realistically inhabiting her own realm, the critically-acclaimed vocalist, violinist, pianist and composer presents music from her latest release, Within You Is A World Of Spring. Diffracting through a greenwood canopy, Zawadzki’s poetic words and music illuminate her unique artistry and the concept behind her latest work. She leads an inspiring band of celebrated musicians in realising her extraordinary, often moving, occasionally droll, original songs: Fred Thomas (piano, drums, percussion, banjo, organ), Rob Luft (guitar), and Misha Mullov-Abbado (double bass).

“She is a genuine original” **** The Guardian

“a voice of velvet suppleness and gutsy emotional power” – The Arts Desk

"Tender in spirit and defiantly anti-genre... A cornucopia of delights."
★★★★ Jazzwise Magazine

"An awestruck hymn to nature that masters all manner of styles."
★★★★ (contemporary album of the month) The Guardian

“a major statement from an increasingly significant artist.” – Music OMH
