About this concert
Kate Hinote is an award-nominated Detroit singer-songwriter performing predominantly original material she has co-written for her various projects, including the Kate Hinote Trio and Alt-Rock band, The Blueflowers, which she has been fronting for fifteen years. Hinote’s vocals are a mesmerizing blend of cinematic and operatic elements, creating an atmosphere suitable for intimate candle-lit lounges, late summer night fever dreams, or as a haunting torch song within a surreal soundtrack. Teaming up with guitarist David Johnson (The Blueflowers) and Matthew Parmenter (Discipline) on violin, The Kate Hinote Trio emerges as a contemporary and unique alt-folk ensemble, culminating in the release of their debut album, “Near,” in March 2021. In addition to touring throughout Michigan and into Ohio, Kentucky, New York and West Virginia, the Trio is working towards the release of their second full-length album in 2025, which promises to establish the signature sound they have been passionately delivering at their live shows. Kate Hinote Trio Biography
The Kate Hinote Trio is:
Kate Hinote / Vocals
Matthew Parmenter / Violin
David Johnson / Acoustic Guitar
Kate Hinote is an award-nominated Detroit singer and songwriter performing predominantly original material she has co-written for her various projects, including Alt-Rock band, The Blueflowers, which she has been fronting for over a decade. Hinote has a voice that’s both cinematic and operatic, a mood-setting, mellifluous intonation that fits inside candle-lit lounges, late summer night feverdreams, or as a torch song from a surreal soundtrack.
The Kate Hinote Trio is a contemporary folk ensemble and features Hinote’s longtime Blueflowers bandmate, David Johnson, on guitar and Matthew Parmenter (Discipline) on violin. John Sinkevics of Local Spins and WYCE in Grand Rapids, MI, describes the trio as a “new indie-folk/prog-folk trio which manages to not only retain and showcase Hinote’s haunting, mesmerizing vocals but centers them in a fetching, gorgeously arranged acoustic pillow.”
In addition to performing original material written by both Hinote and Parmenter, individually and collaboratively, the Trio performs select modern and retro covers, including a handful of songs by other Detroit-based songwriters. Those songs are among those featured on their debut album, Near, recorded at Tempermill Studios in Ferndale, MI and released in March 2021. Near provides an introduction to the Trio’s live sound, combining brooding, intimate and reflective moments, with drama that arrests one’s attention.
Thriving on the excitement of performing live to connect with long-time friends and new listeners, the Kate Hinote Trio has played over 100 shows at venues and festivals throughout Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, New York and West Virginia, among them an hour-long broadcast performance and interview at the NPR/PRX syndicated program “Red Barn Radio” out of WEKU in Lexington, KY. With a creative fire burning, and new material in the works, the Trio pushes full steam ahead towards a second album and expanding their playing radius further to surprise more audiences with their unique sound and intricately arranged songs. https://katehinote.com/katehinotetrio
