Bryce McGlothin Biography
Born and raised deep in the heart of the south along the Mississippi River and Louisiana border - where country, soul, blues, and gospel music collide - emerges a refreshing singer-songwriter and soul rocker named Bryce McGlothin. Quickly making a name for himself, the 19-year-old breakout musician from Jonesville, Louisiana first turned industry and talent executive heads in the right direction while making an audition appearance on American Idol (Season 20). Earning a Golden Ticket Winner from performing a southern rock rendition of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Born On The Bayou,” and impressing celebrity music judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie & Luke Bryan. It was that experience which made Bryce believe that a career in music is waiting for him.
“I was just a normal kid in a small town, who has a big dream,” Bryce explains. “My recent experience on American Idol has given me even more inspiration and solidified my natural musical instincts which I already knew have always been there.”
Born in 2005 in West Monroe, Louisiana, Bryce began honing his musical instincts at a very young age with a small piano he was gifted as a child by his parents. Mostly encouraged by his father, Glen McGlothin, a musician and singer in the band Easy Eddie and the Party Rockers, who over a 30-year career had the opportunity to open or play for the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Leon Russell, and Percy Sledge. McGlothin also performed onstage with Mickey Gilley and Aaron Neville, and oftentimes while Bryce was sitting side-stage.
“As a young child, I remember being side stage at my Dad’s shows and watching him out there performing for everyone,” Bryce recalls. “I would do the best I could to envision myself out there doing the same thing one day. So here I am now, and I’m just beginning my own musical journey, but am excited to where it can lead.”
Bryce also credits a hometown band named Bishop Gunn he grew up listening to also as inspiration for wanting to pursue music as a career. In 2016, Bryce along with his high school buddy Tyler Gregg who he still performs with today, eventually would open for Bishop Gunn in the Longwood Afternoon Music Festival.
Stylistically Bryce has found most of his personal musical inspiration in southern music icons like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Creedence Clearwater Revival and country-bluegrass singer-songwriter Tyler Childers.
“The storytelling aspect of songwriting is very important to me as a songwriter,” Bryce said. “Listening to the stories of some of my favorite artists have inspired me to focus on the storytelling side of songwriting, rather than just writing random words down on paper.”
On Bryce’s 2022 debut single, “This House Isn’t A Home,” the talented Louisiana teen brings forth a fresh and soulful sound that is equally country and blues tinged. His intended ability to use his song to tell a story is that of a broken-hearted man who realizes his house is not a home, without the one he loves.
“I feel like this is a song that really shows what I am all about as an artist,” he said. “I think this song is a good first step as my debut song because it encompasses my natural abilities. My hope is that it will set forth a long journey as a singer-songwriter.”
Aside from music and when he is not on stage or writing his next song, Bryce enjoyed playing football, graduating from Cathedral High School in Natchez, MS in 2023. Bryce started college at Louisiana State University in Aug of 2023 majoring in Business Finance later changing his major to Political Science.
Besides being a full-time student at LSU Bryce is works part-time with the Concordia Parish DA's office and is also the lead singer for the band Paradigm which includes Gavin Lankston -guitar of New Orleans, LA Noah Bates - guitar of Covington, LA & Charlie Hook - drummer of Dallas, TX (all students at LSU).
Near his hometown, Bryce has also been passionate about helping support the Lily Grace McCarthy Memorial Scholarship with his own money and time. The scholarship fund benefits students in need of financial assistance, and is named in honor of Bryce’s friend who passed away in August 2021 from a car accident. Bryce also wants to eventually work with and help raise funds for larger charitable efforts such as St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
“The LMSC is something that I hold very near and dear to my heart. Lily and I became close in the summer of 2021. From that moment, I could tell that she was a shining light and that she had an impact on everyone around her and that our friendship would last a lifetime. I want to ensure her memory will live forever which is why I am so supportive of the scholarship.”
After Bryce’s breakout performance on American Idol, he was soon discovered by Bernard Porter of PCG Artist Development, who immediately signed Bryce into PCG’s emerging artist development program. Through PCG, Bryce will continue to build upon his natural and firm foundation of crafting songs with his unique southern sound, working with top songwriters, producers, and artist development experts in Nashville. With a second single released in 2022, Bryce commemorated his late friend Lily who passed away on the one year anniversary of her death.
“I think that if I keep working hard and facing the challenges I am presented with, that I can take my music career as far as I am willing to go,” Bryce states. “I feel I am still working on finding my true self and becoming my own musician, but at the end of the day, I feel like I will always be the same ole Bryce. I can't wait to show my fans what's next!”
