The Unsuitables

The band started in 2014 in a location we call the Happy Shack. Our Drummer, Larry Sappington, was interested in starting a band that would focus on a sound that is a bit unusual around our operating area. At the time there were a ton of bands who played Classic Rock music, bluegrass, some blues bands, and Americana bands. Our focus is on classic R&B, Motown classics, and a mixture of rock and blues music. Our harmonies and song selection work in so many ways. From old to young, our success is related to the energy we put into our performances. We wanted folks to want to dance and sing! We think we got it.

Steven Borenstein, Keyboards, hails from Chicago and resides in Charlottesville. He is a self taught musician and our most recent addition to the band. He also is the bands horn section. We love to showcase his talent in our sets.

Larry Sappington, the founder and drummer has been playing in bands since he began to crawl. The list is very long. He is considered one of the finest drummers in Central Virginia.

Stuart Salmon, also musically educated, is our outstanding bass player. He’s been playing with a variety of bands in our Central Virginia area. Stu has the musical ear and background that improves our sound.

Mitch Rosenberg is our guitarist and he always has tricks up his sleeve. He joined us in 2017 and has enabled the band to improve leaps and bounds. Mitch has played in a ton of bands and his endless work at his craft simply makes The Unsuitables a must see. Mitch has a great reputation as a guitarist in Central Virginia.

Bobby Hauge is one of the original members of the band and is our lead singer. Bobby brings a great energy to our live performances. He engages with the audience and has been known to shake a leg with our audience while performing. Bobby has played with bands in Central Virginia and Northern Virginia.
