Coighty and The Kickstands Biography
Stemming from Rockhampton, Central Queensland, Coighty and The Kickstands bring the noise with their niche ‘Dive Bar Country’ vibe. Whether it be folk styled ballads to sing along with, or hard rockin’ country staples, CATK know how to deliver their unique style.
No matter if they’re performing at a local pub gig, rodeo, public event, or wedding, the boys from CATK live band combine a vast background in both musical taste and experience, which never fails to impress the punters at every opportunity.
With almost 20 years of gigging under his belt, well travelled Frontman ‘Coighty’ is well recognised throughout the Central Queensland region and beyond from his spirited personality, and musical background and connections.
Playing in various pub rock bands and a long stint of solo gigging in previous years led to the introduction of ‘The Duke’ the son of Coighty’s good mate The Redman from Gladstone when Duke was just 15.
Coighty was literally going to play for a keg party in a park and the Redman asked “my son can play guitar, do you mind if he brings his guitar too”. Immediately recognising The Duke had untapped talent, Coighty took him under his wing and they covered every bit of white lined highway from Rockhampton to Moolooba and Kilcoy, and out west through Emerald and as far as Longreach playing gigs at every venue and event they could get their axes in the door.
Alas a stint back to Victoria for Duke was prolonged until more recently when they caught up again where Coighty had gone back to his early passion for Country Music. Duke was initially hesitant due to the unfamiliarity of the music, but has slowly grown to appreciate and twist his style of metal and rock into the unique licks that promote the uniqueness of their own genre of ‘Dive Bar Country’.
Due to the change in direction and a passion to deliver more, it was time to grow the duo, through pure luck (and a few phone calls) emerged ‘Josho’, the well seasoned (and reliable) drummer. Along with a wealth of experience in percussion and the bonus of being a tech head, Josho has strengthened the crew with ripping drum fills and a great ear for live sound.
