About this concert
ABUR IN THE ARK – A RELEASE RITUAL FOR THE WOVEN WORLD There are places in this world where time slows, where the breath of the earth lingers in the air, where life—tender, fragile, and ancient—finds sanctuary. The Green Ark in the Botanic Garden of Meise is one such place. A vast cathedral of glass, wood and foliage, it shelters thousands of species of plants, each a testament to the intricate web of existence. In an age where the hum of biodiversity grows ever fainter, The Green Ark stands as a guardian, a keeper of life’s delicate threads. Here, within this sanctuary, Abur will come to life. On June 14th, we invite you to step into this verdant refuge for the artistic release of our second full-length album, Abur—a work woven from the pulse of the earth, the breath of trees, the whisper of water, and the unbroken gaze between man and nature. This setting is the perfect extension of the music’s soul, a space where sound and nature entwine in resonance. The Botanic Garden in Meise is also home to one of the works of landscape artist Will Beckers, whose organic sculptures shape the Ykavus music video. His presence here echoes the themes of Abur: the interwovenness of all things, the dance of roots and sky, the silent languages of twig and leaf. To honour this moment, we will perform two shows beneath the glass canopy—one in the golden hush of the afternoon, and one in the deepening twilight of evening. Ambient artist Samatha (Gert Stockmans), a dear friend and kindred spirit, will guide us into the liminal spaces. Join us. Step inside the Ark. Let Abur take root.

Pothamus Biography

Mixing music and metaphysics, sludge/post-metal band Pothamus takes you on an enchanting trip. Based in Mechelen, Belgium, this three-piece ensemble formed in 2013 and has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of repetitive riffage, floating drones, tribalesque percussion, and abrasive bass lines. In Pothamus’ enigmatic world, the search for meaning stands central. Blending eastern philosophy and western esotericism into a unique ontology, the band returns to the fundamentals of music: coming together and drifting away towards collective catharsis. Pothamus is a conduit for both connection and contemplation, inviting the audience to explore the depths of both sound and meaning. Be sure to catch this captivating trip live.

In 2025, they are set to release their highly anticipated second album ‘Abur’ through Pelagic Records, promising to take their listeners on yet another spellbinding odyssey. The recording, mixing and mastering of ‘Abur’ was done by Chiaran Verheyden (a.o. Psychonaut, Hippotraktor).

Lead single and the first piece written for the album, ‘Savartuum Avur’ is an uncompromising invitation to cast away the preconceived beliefs and social constructs that lure us away from a sense of spiritual unity. Building as one like a gathering storm, ‘Savartuum Avur’ is Pothamus embracing chaos as the generative force behind creation; unleashing their unmistakable cosmic sludge metal in an exhilarating statement of intent.
