Girth Control Biography
Girth Control poses the eternal question: what got you stoked in the first place? The upstate NY ska/punk trio wants you to remember the days of circle pits and skateboards, basement bands and beer bongs, the beauty of punk rock in all its permutations. Formed in 2014 by past and present members of Public Access and The Slaughterhouse Chorus as a one-off excuse to cover their favorite Less Than Jake songs, Girth Control quickly took on a life of its own as a living, breathing, skanking entity specializing in superbly stupid singalongs. Over the years Girth Control has cranked out a full-length album, a 14-song 7" and a series of singles, toured throughout the northeast, and shared the stage with their ska idols. They opened for Doyle from the Misfits once, and they mix a mean frozen cocktail.
Girth Control's new LP “Life’s Too Short for Girth Control” is the band’s magnum opus, a 25-song punk rock epic where the hooks keep coming, the jokes never quit, and the sincerity sneaks up on you. Girth Control brings it all to the table in the anything-goes double album spirit of ‘90s touchstones “Nimrod” and “Life Won’t Wait”, topping their signature ska/punk party pizza with steel drums, strings, saxophones, and even the occasional acoustic guitar. Holding it all together like a perfectly crispy crust is the band’s neverending mission to keep things catchy and honest while having as much fun as humanly possible. It’s the sound of three punk rock lifers fueled by the infectious joy of making dumb music with good friends, still stoked after all these years. Life’s too short for anything less.
