Violator DJ Showtyme Biography
Violator DJ Showtyme started at an early age. His Mother, at age 3, taught him how to read and comprehend at a 2nd grade level. Throughout his Grammar School years, he took first place in poetry and speech contests. DJ Showtyme's Mom died of Ovarian Cancer in 1986. He took to music as an outlet and started rapping in talent shows. Because of his success in academia, he excelled in contests and open mics.
He kept rhyming during his High School years grabbing the attention of First Lady, DJ Terry Hunter and The Late Pink House. He won open mics all throughout the city garnering massive cash prizes, awards and popularity
After High School, Show (as he's affectionately called) attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Show wanted to major in Radio/TV and the school was ranked 3rd in the country in that program. He soon discovered his High School friend, Dana Hall was going there. Dana had teamed up with Joe Hall (no relation) and they were djing all of the school events.
They took Show under their wing and showed him the ropes. Showtyme was also working for WIDB FM, the college radio station, hosting his own radio show during the week and mixshows during the weekend. As his popularity grew, he started performing out of state, djing and rapping.
In 1995, DJ Showtyme with the collaboration of Majestic MC released his first album, "It's About Tyme". The record was an International sensation. Produced by Majestic MC, Ole Boy and Co-Produced by Show, it featured a repoitoire of Hip House, Hip Hop and unique storytelling.
In 1999, Show returned to Chicago after meeting his Wife and Manager, Naritta Haywood online. He went to work right away meeting Martin "Boogieman" Luna. Show joined the coalition, " MixMasters" and started djing events. Naritta was definitely doing her part, networking and promoting whenever she could.
While networking she met Geno and Migna Dejornette. This couple introduced Naritta and Show to K-One, CEO of Drunken Style Records. (A multi-cultural, Laoatian Based record label) Migna and Geno vouched for the couple and Show became the official dj for the label. During a Drunken Syle sponsored Cassidy/ Brooke Valentine concert, Show and Nartta met DJ Shaun T.
Shaun T was working with Jamal Smallz (WGCI), DJ Jermaine (MC Lyte"s DJ), Kool Ant and RL in a coalition called Full Impact DJs and they invited the couple to join. Everything was going great with Full Impact until a chance opening slot for DJ Slugo (Blok Club DJs) changed the trajectory of Show and Naritta's career.
Showtyme killed his set and treated Slugo like royalty. They exchanged numbers and Slugo vowed to keep in touch. 2 months later, Violator DJ President, ScrapDirty and Vice President Terry Hunter, reached out to DJ Slugo to start his own branch of Violator, Violator Juke Squad DJs. Slugo immediately reached out to Show and Naritta and asked them to join. Show didn't want to leave Full Impact, because of the kinship, but knew what Violator meant to the music industry.
He asked for Jamal Smallz's blessing and shortly thereafter joined Violator Juke. During his tenure, ScrapDirty asked if anyone from Juke Squad wanted to do mixes for Hip Hop Nation on Sirius/XM......Show jumped at the opportunity.
Proving they had the skill set, hunger and humility, ScrapDirty and Terry eventually recruited Show and Naritta to Violator All Star DJs. The rest as you say is history as the couple expanded their brand beyond their wildest dreams. Show djs currently at the largest club in Chicago, Ocean. (It's so big it has a swimming pool on the inside).
Showtyme in 2019 became a Program Director of a radio station,Blazzin 95.1. Blazzin 95.1 is a subsidary of Kulturezine Music Group, owned by Tony Jordan and Shakiji Malik Abdul. The format features empowerment and spiritually uplifting hip hop for all minorities. Show currently also has a syndicated mixshow which is on 45 stations worldwide and just recently got back on Shade 45 wth Inphamous Amadeuz and Lord Sear.
Showtyme also currently is a host for Urban Grind TV, a Hip Hop TV show, Executive Produced by Wally Lockard III. Wally "Mr. Music Is My Business" is an experienced Entrepreneur, Entertainment Lawyer, Educator and Music Producer who has over 25 years experience.
Wally just recently inked a distribution deal with Ingrooves/Univeral Records and appointed Show as Executive VP of A&R. Show's first artist is Max Julian, a talented native of Chicago with an amazing live show.
DJ Showtyme is a Multi Award Winning DJ and Instructor who is an open format dj. He is available for Nightclubs, Special Events, Radio, Festivals, Mixtapes and Event Hosting. Violator DJ Showtyme has over 30 years of professional experience. He has opened up for A Tribe Called Quest, Common, Twista, Do or Die, Crucial Conflict, Flo Rida, Black Sheep, G Herbo, NLE Choppa, Yo Gotti, Jumpin Julian Perez, Fast Eddie, Omarion, Project Pat and Waka Flocka Flame just to name a few.
Naritta and Show believe that with hard work, staying humble and family oriented, as well as " keeping their nose clean", will get them far in this industry. That theory and mantra has proven to be correct, time and time again.
