York Biography
Specializing in Electronica, Chillout and Clubmusic with an organic twist, German Electronic Music project York started as a collaboration between two brothers, Torsten and Jörg Stenzel. Founded in 1997 the project is considered a pioneer within guitar-driven electronic music.
York released three singles, the first of which The Awakening gained love and respect from clubbers and fellow DJs alike, reaching #11 in the UK Singles Chart in October 1999. With 250,000 copies shifted it is one of the biggest selling records in the UK not to make the Top 10! Their second single On The Beach/Reachers of Civilisation was their biggest hit, making #4 in June 2000 and selling 200,000 copies. The next chart entry Farewell To The Moon crept into the Top 40 at #37 in November later that year. Their last UK hit single was Fields Of Love which featured fellow dance musician ATB. It reached #16 in January 2001.
As one of the pioneers in trance music York producer Torsten Stenzel releases most of his work on his own Planet Love Records label, to be licensed by majors like Universal, Armada Music, Black Hole Recordings and Enhanced Music later.
