About this concert
Wordsmiths with Storytelling Songs and Lyrical Epics Hosted by E.G. Phillips, a San Francisco songwriter often compared to Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen... or, one of that crowd. Portland based Stephanie Strange is the Conductress and lead singer of Strange & the Familiars, who have for years been telling tall tales about lost people with unusual abilities, dark friends from unexpected places, and warnings from the wordless. Heavily inspired by the work of literary and comic book artists, Stephanie’s songs come from the wildest woods to the littlest cages. She straddles the line between rock opera and musical theatre storytelling while exploring the dark and fantastical places in the human mind. Ants Fujinaga plays darkly comical songs with scientific and literary references focused on a host of bizarre subject matters. Her unusual musical creations feature, among other things, Balkan rhythms, Renaissance and Celtic elements, volucrine whistling, and ornate vocals.

EG Phillips Biography

E.G. Phillips is a San Francisco based songwriter who creates lyric driven songs with his own special blend of whimsy and cinematic imagery. His musical influences range that from old school rock and folk to classic jazz.   His favorites include Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Kinks as well as Duke Ellington and that crowd. A touch of Tom Lehrer might also be in the mix.

He has been the "Songwriter-in-Residence" at Bazaar Cafe (September 2015 and April 2017) and a featured performer at the Cafe International and Hotel Utah. For the past two years, E.G. has hosted “E.G. Phest" (most recently at the Lost Church) where a dozen or so local bay area musicians cover one of his songs as part of his birthday celebration, giving them their own distinct spin. In early 2017 Phillips released his first album "Fish from the Sky"  -- a collection of well worn originals he's performed around the Bay Area for many years.
