Hans Vroomans Biography
Born in The Hague, The Netherlands, Hans Vroomans began discovering the piano at age 4. He studied classical piano from age 9 and later jazz, pop and world music at the conservatories of The Hague and Rotterdam. Further studies brought him to New York City where he lived for five years. An offer to become the principal pianist with the Metropole Orkest made him decide to return to the Netherlands. With this cutting edge Grammy award winning orchestra he moves within all possible styles: pop, jazz, film and world music and has shared the stage and recorded with an endless list of artists which includes some of the biggest names in music: Vince Mendoza, John Scofield, Bob Brookmeyer, Kurt Elling, Ivan Lins, Lalah Hathaway, …..
Outside the orchestra he has toured internationally and performed extensively with Dutch singers such as Laura Fygi and Trijntje Oosterhuis.
Hans has been a regular guest with the German radio big bands such as the WDR big band in Cologne and the HR big band in Frankfurt. With the NDR big band of Hamburg he was part of Al Jarreau’s last tour of Europe in 2016 performing the music of Duke Ellington.
He has been a regular member of Klaro!, a quartet with saxophonist Karolina Strassmayer and drummer Drori Mondlak, touring Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Austria.
He recorded several trio CD’s and a solo piano album and is currently working on a new trio album with Brazilian music.
Hans has been on the faculty of the jazz department of the Amsterdam Conservatory since 2001, teaching piano, sight reading, accompanying, harmony at the piano, and coaching several ensembles there.
He has been on the jury twice of the UNISA International piano competition in Pretoria, South-Africa.
