Giuseppe Verdi is misschien wel de grootste operacomponist ooit. In zijn Requiem, de mis voor de doden, wist Verdi daardoor als geen ander de menselijke emoties in muziek te vatten. Lorenzo Viotti, het Nederlands Philharmonisch en het Koor van De Nationale Opera zijn als opera-team fantastisch op elkaar ingespeeld.
