Flutist and composer Yulia Musayelyan was born in Moscow, Russia, where she started music studies at the age of 4. A versatile performer and improviser across musical styles, she leads an original quartet, tango-jazz project, and co-leads the Macayú Trio. Yulia collaborates regularly with Fernando Huergo Quintet and Big Band, Gaia Wilmer Large Ensemble, Dario Acosta Teich, Vadim Neselovskyi Group, Louis Cole Big Band, Knower, Lexington Symphony, Chrysalis Orchestra, and Brooklyn Orchestra, among others.
She was a soloist with TACTUS Contemporary Ensemble with guest conductor maestro Pierre Boulez, and has performed with Brooklyn Orchestra at the United Nations Headquarters, as a soloist on flute and Armenian duduk. Her chamber works have been premiered at Symphony Space in NYC and featured in the 2006 film Natalie Bonn.
Yulia has released 5 albums as leader, recorded on over 35 albums as a sideman, and toured the U.S., the U.K., Europe, Central and South America with various musical projects. Her recent album “Strange Times”, was released on Wherego Music in November, 2024. Yulia holds degrees from Manhattan School of Music and New York University, and is currently the Assistant Chair of Ear Training at Berklee College of Music.
