Laleh Biography
Singer, producer, songwriter, and musician Laleh Pourkarim has a back-story that could be the plot of a sprawling war-time novel. But after her first album “Laleh” in 2005 she has been dictating her own life and been successful doing so.
She writes, plays, records, produces, and engineers every note of her music herself in her studio. Since 2005 when she first signed her record deal, Laleh has become a major star in Scandinavia, where she has released six albums and won three Swedish Grammis amid 10 nominations including winning Producer of the year, first woman to do so in Swedish history.
Her artist career includes hits like, Some Die Young, Live tomorrow, Colors, Bara få va mig själv, Vårens första dag, En stund på jorden and many more. The songs are in English, Swedish and Farsi.
Born in Iran to democratic activist parents, including a journalist/artist father. The family lived in hiding before fleeing, after Laleh’s birth, to Azerbaijan, then to Minsk, where Laleh has memories of Soviet bread lines and squat government housing. When she was nine, the Pourkarims moved to Sweden (family lore has it that her mother chose Sweden because she was a fan of ABBA). But despite everything she’s been through, Laleh insists her story doesn't dictate her songs “music gives us the chance to change the world and change our lives”.
