About this concert
La Rama reaches year 8 of the shop! For the occasion, we welcome back an extra special guest, Steven Julien. The Apron Records head is currently on tour to coincide with the release of his DJ-Kicks out on November 22nd. Stevie f.k.a. FunkinEven is no stranger to Montreal. We have had the pleasure to host him multiple times in the past. For anyone who attended 'ALL GOOD' at The Hive in 2016... you know the deal! That party was only a few months before the shop opened doors, and we find ourselves back together with great things to celebrate :-) To kick off the night, we have a pillar of the shop, DJ/Producer extraordinaire Gene Tellem. She runs Bienvenue Recordings, rocks the dance floor regulalrly & has production credits that run far and wide as En Stereo, Secret Witness, Game Plan +++ All this is going down at our dear Hideyuki's Osmo x Marusan with Elastique Audio's full Danley kit! Intimate, just how you want it. Limited tickets, so please get yours in advance to not miss out :-) -KG

Steven Julien Biography

Steven Julien is an artist and entrepreneur. In a landscape increasingly dominated by privilege and oneupmanship his story is a rare one. Over the course of his life he has made his way from growing up on a notoriously rough South Acton estate to rubbing shoulders with some of the best known musicians, and cultural practitioners of his day. The best, though, is still yet to come.

Like many of his generation Steven Julien’s early introduction to music came from partnering up with friends at school to form MC and dance crews. The spirit of teamwork and community have stayed with him since then. It was his first job, though, as a barber in Shepherd’s Bush, where he made a name for himself, with stars like Chris Akabusi, Pharrell Williams and Marcel Desailly turning to him for their fades. Through clever networking and hard graft honing his musical skills behind closed doors, he was able to attain a debut release on Eglo Records, the label that launched the careers of Fatima and Floating Points, in 2009, under his previous old pseudonym Funkineven.
