Chris Canas

Chris Canas has been a driving force in the Detroit music scene for 25 years. From humble beginnings as a Classical and Jazz Cornet player, all the way through to Bass, Drums, Piano, Saxophone, Harmonica, Kazoo, Hambone, Spoons, Washboard, and finally Guitar. This young Blues Man has done it all. At 16 he released his first album that was self recorded and produced in his bedroom on a 4 track tascam analog mixer his mother bought him for Christmas. He has written hundreds of original songs, has released 7 albums, and has made it to the finals of the International Blues Challenge where he landed 4th place in the world. In 2007 the Chris Canas Band won their first Blues Competition when they competed in the West Michigan Blues Society's challenge. They also won the Kalamazoo Valley Blues Association challenge in 2010, the Detroit Blues Society challenge in 2012 as well as 2014, 2016, and 2019, Orange Blossom Blues Challenge as well in 2019 but they didn’t want to be greedy and gave the win to the runner up David Smash. They reached the top of the mountain in 2020 at the IBC to become an elite Blues Challenge Finalist. Chris has put together a team of veteran musicians over the years and has learned many lessons while paying his dues the long hard way to help keep the blues alive and moving forward for all music lovers. The Chris Canas Band has a well blended set of classic covers and clever, roller coaster like originals that keep the audience captivated and coming back for more. With their diverse mix of Blues, Funk, and Soul they are always well equipped to bring the Blues party wherever they go. With heart -wrenching vocals, pulse pounding rhythms, and an electric energy that can be felt in the air, they are always a fan favorite at festivals and venues.

The 2022 Album "DETROIT" is an homage to the city’s rich history in blues and music. Recorded at Bigfoot Studios in Waterville, OH, owned by Grammy nominated recording engineer Travis Geiman, “DETROIT” is a roller coaster ride of emotion and versatility in the music we all know and love. Chris’ taste, style, and emotion seamlessly flow from Blues Rock, Swamp Blues, Juke Joint Blues, Soul-infused Blues, Blues Ballads, and Funky Blues with ease.
