About this concert
David Mitchell & Rupert Kirby will be performing their ceilidh/folk dance tune sets for dancers at this friendly club which has been going for over 40 years. Beginners and/or new people are always made to feel very welcome so please do come along whether you are experienced or not! Chard Folk Dance Club meet at Combe St Nicholas Village Hall (near Chard in Somerset) on alternate Thursday evenings at 7.30pm. Doors open from around 7pm and there's a break in the middle for a cuppa and the raffle plus any notices etc. Bringing your own refreshments is fine too. There is always a live band and a good selection of callers throughout the year. It is a friendly group and the emphasis is on enjoyment alongside dancing and is the best club we've found with this approach! Very reasonable fees (yearly or just pay on the night), which includes tea and biscuits. David Mitchell: Musician Biography

David Mitchell describes his guitar playing as “Folk-Classical fingerstyle”, combining these genres to create a beautiful and unique take on some well known pieces and traditional folk tunes as well as performing his own original compositions.
He has enjoyed performing solo guitar at a range of lovely venues including Downend Folk & Roots, Banbury Folk Club, The Amadeus, Wessex Acoustic Folk Club, Fivehead Folk & Acoustic Music Night, VegFest Bristol, Broadstairs Folk Week as well as many other public and private events.

Alongside solo gigs, David enjoys performing with other musicians including collaborations and depping in with bands and musicians near and far - particularly for ceilidhs. These include a duo with fiddle player Rupert Kirby as well as in the “Monkey See Monkey Do Ceilidh Band”.

In addition to being a talented musician, David trained as a luthier at Newark and Sherwood College and uses a Classical Guitar that he crafted himself. He also plays other stringed instruments as well as whistles and recorders.

David released his debut solo guitar album 'Contours' full of instrumental tunes from the Folk and Classical world alongside original compositions in October 2024.
