Moving Pictures - Rush Tribute - Scotland

Rescheduled from the night of Storm Oewyn, to a bizarre Sunday matinee performance instead. I probably wasn't the only one unsure how that might pan out, especially upon arrival at the advertised 3pm time to find the shutters on The Bungalow fully down and a small but perfectly formed queue outside. So apparently Moving Pictures were actually starting at 4pm and all was well. Recovering from recent leg surgery, I hobbled in on my crutches into what appeared to be the only seat/table combo that didn't have a reserved label on it. These spots are sometimes advertised as 'limited view'. In this case it was 'no view' whatsoever. Not to worry, I've seen these guys countless times and other than the stunning vision that is Jamie on drums, ears are more important than eyes here ;-) Announcing a 'sort of' R40 set, featuring career highlights played in reverse order. We started a backwards traverse starting with the good stuff, ending several hours later with the really good stuff. Not being fortunate enough, or should I say 'old enough' to have seen Rush live at The Glasgow Apollo during those halcyon days of 2112 tours or Farewell To Kings, Moving Pictures never fail to transport me back in time to a feeling that must closely resemble what it must have been like had I been there, head to toe in denim with a large 2112 Starman patch stitched across my back ? I started attending Rush gigs around the Hold Your Fire tour in '87, and as much as I saw them loads, I really craved that authentic 70's era vibe. First half a splendid array of various cuts from Clockwork Angels all the way back to (was it ?) Permanent Waves or maybe that one kicked off part two ? But that second half 'festival of all things 70's Rush' that followed was what I'd come to see..ahem... "hear". As any Rush aficionado knows, that shit ain't easy to play. So to hear these three, two blokes and one girl, churn this stuff out with the greatest of ease, was simply fantastic. 10/10 fav: Xanadu.
