Jonny Docherty Biography

Scintillating sets and infectious energy: two assets that clubbers crave from their spinner of choice, and the basis of what Jonny Docherty brings to the turntables. It’s the power of Scotland bringing that North East knowhow, with Newcastle-born, Glasgow based-DJ and producer Docherty blazing trails from the UK to the Balearics.

Picked out as one to watch upon making inroads into the ever-competitive Ibizan club scene over the last decade, Docherty has comfortably conquered must-check venues such as Plastik, Eden and Ibiza Rocks with a trance sound hitting the sweet spot of danceability and sensitivity. Maintaining his growing profile with further Ibiza residencies at Es Paradis and Savannah, warming up for high-ranking headliners and claiming the spotlight for himself with stints at Eden and the world famous Café Mambo, Jonny is the go-to guy for giving punters value for money. Happy customers queuing for a shot of JD come to the same conclusion - Docherty jams the dancefloor, then keeps it bouncing from first beat to last, his ever-present smile taking whole crowds with him.

From holding down two radio shows banging out beats from Spain to Scotland, then finding his way onto the esteemed BBC Introducing airwaves, closer to home Jonny is just as hot a ticket away from Europe’s summer sun. Taking the lead with residencies at Glasgow's most hyped venues - The Social Glasgow, Committee Rooms and the brand new Haus Glasgow - and also bringing the noise to London’s legendary Ministry of Sound supporting Jonas Blue and Woody Cook, Jonny has shown he can get speakers sizzling whatever the setting. Case in point – DJing a Champions League fanzone in front of 5,000 feverish football followers, and providing everyone with absolutely the right result.

As with many artists during lockdown, Docherty took clubland’s enforced hiatus as a chance to up his versatility, honing his production skills and technique and coming out the other side with the likes of ‘Electricity’. A blissful trance style that has become his trademark, sent shooting up clubbers’ spines, Jonny’s attention to vocal smoothness is tailor-made for dusk til dawn delight and delicacy, the soundtrack for when clubbers set their watch by a setting sun. Declaring himself a triple threat in the traditional club modes of DJing, producing and remixing, Docherty’s studio status promises a schedule of world-beating releases, with tunes for Statement Music, Nuon Music and IBZ Records having already caught fire on the playlists that matter.

Remix-wise, Docherty continues to aim high, with the not inconsiderable scoops of Ruben De Ronde (A State of Trance) and Roland Clark (Armand van Helden’s ‘Flowerz’) showcasing the sort of smooth trance contours and melody that has made him a favourite on domestic and Mediterranean shores, as well as a knack for knocking punchy piano house out the park. Scene stars such as Woody Van Eyden, Alex Morph and Scooter’s Jay Frog are all pencilled in for sharing stages and setting the pace alongside our North East excellency this year, marking 2024 as one where Docherty’s scintillating and infectious sound sweeps the board.
