Sylvia Grape Biography
Sylvia Grape is a contemporary folk rock singer-songwriter and guitarist originally from Northern California. With a unique style of songwriting that reflects her biggest inspirations — Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, India Arie, Norah Jones — Sylvia has written for electronic groups and shared the stage with notable musician Isaac Phillips, Emmy Award-nominated for his work with Whitney Houston.
After struggling with mental health for most of childhood, Sylvia put down the saxophone and picked up the guitar when she was suspended from high school her junior year. She later realized this would be “the best thing that ever happened.” During this period she taught herself on an unplugged electric, inventing chords along the way. Songs of healing and deep anguish flowed through her like water, and soon she was channeling them for audiences throughout the county at 16. Sylvia continued to study music at UC Santa Cruz, graduating with a BA in psychology in 2019.
With a performance career spanning over a decade, venues have included (but are not limited to) the Whiskey a Go Go, the Felton Music Hall, Santa Cruz Music Festival, and more recently, L’Auberge de Sedona as a resident musician. She brings her signature fingerpicking style, driving rhythms, and intricate melodies to the Americana music scene. While you’ll find her playing solo at most gigs, she knows how to pack a punch and captivates audiences with her high-energy performances.
Sylvia lives in Sedona, Arizona and is in the process of recording her debut studio album.
