Tommy Crawford Biography

Tommy Crawford is an actor, theater artist, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer based in Wilder, VT. His music weaves together many strands of americana — folk, blues, bluegrass, country, rock n roll — with his skillful singing and fingerpicking, warm and inviting presence, distinctive lyricism, and unique perspective. His songs go for the head and the heart, inquiring into our relationship with nature, interrogating the self, and excavating personal relationships, sometimes reading like short works of poetic philosophy wrapped in the guise of a folk pop song. A dad, he also writes songs about diapers. As a founding member of folk band and theater ensemble The Lobbyists, Tommy has written songs called “marvelous” (The New York Times), “terrific” (The New Yorker), and “enchanting” (Entertainment Weekly), and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music for the score of SeaWife, alongside Sara Bareilles and Steve Martin. As a composer and lyricist, Tommy is interested in experimental musicals that push the boundaries of form and blend band performance and theatrical storytelling. His latest project is The Vermont Farm Project, a Northern Stage commission based on over two years of interviews with New England farmers that investigates what it means to farm this land, today. Join Tommy for a night of original songs and stories, including some of his newest tunes. More at www.tommycrawford.com.

“Crawford is an engaging songwriter and a talented multi-instrumentalist, and both are evident in abundance on Athena and the Moon.” - Chris Farnsworth, Seven Days VT

“'Sing Me Silence, SeaWife,' is the most haunting of the show. Starting with a simple, lovely melody, it moves through rich chord changes and swells with stunning harmonies. This piece reflects the aesthetics of The Lobbyists at their very best, and I know of few other groups today who can match their range of expression.’ - Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror
