Kin Faux Biography

Kin Faux is not a person. Kin Faux is a movement. Kin as in Family, Faux as in Fake. They believe that you can build the family you want and that everyone is welcome.

Based out of San Antonio, Texas, Kin Faux is a dynamic, nationally touring band that infuses the vibrant spirit of Texas Red Dirt Country into every performance. Drawing inspiration from iconic artists like Charlie Daniels, Alabama, and Restless Heart, their sound features rich vocal harmonies and virtuosic fiddle playing by Rico Gonzalez, incendiary guitar work by Jakey Black, and a thunderous rhythm section with Avery Castro on drums and Adam Carrillo on bass.

The band was formed out of a shared passion for Texas Red Dirt music, inspired by artists such as Randy Rogers, Kevin Fowler, and Turnpike Troubadours. Kin Faux's music echoes the authenticity and resilience found in traditional American folklore, telling stories of struggle and hope through heartfelt lyrics and captivating melodies.

Their high-energy and engaging performances have quickly gained them traction, earning them the title of “the band to see” and “the tightest band in Texas”.

They recorded their debut EP at Mainframe Studios in Nashville with producer Bobby Randall. Kin Faux's self-titled EP was released in the fall of 2018 and they released their first single "Teardrops on the Rocks" in the summer of 2019 to rave reviews.

The boys returned to Nashville to record again, this time at Sony Tree Studios with producer Jim Beavers at the helm. This session produced their second single “Locked Up in Lubbock”, released in March of 2020, and their third single, “Honky Tonk in Heaven” in October of 2020. "Honky Tonk in Heaven" would become the band's breakout single, steadily working its way up the charts to finally deliver their first #1 hit on Texas Radio in March 2021.

Both of these songs would appear on the band's second album, "Honky Tonk in Heaven" released in April 2021, with the latter serving as the title track.

"Honky Tonk in Heaven" would prove to be the album that would establish Kin Faux as a mainstay on the Texas music charts. The title track reached #1 for two consecutive weeks as did “Wild Horses”, a duet with Terry McBride. The success of this album would garner the boys multiple Texas Country Music Association Awards, as well, taking home trophies for "Country Band of the Year" in 2021, "Single of the Year" (for Wild Horses) in 2022, as well as a Texas Regional Radio Award for "New Band or Duo" of the Year in 2022. This period also found the band dabbling into music videos, creating videos for “Plainview”, “Wild Horses”, and “Mas Tequila Por Favor”.

In 2022, Kin Faux returned to Nashville to once again partner up with Jim Beavers to produce Kin Faux's third album, "Cheaper Than the Truth" which was released in February of 2023. This album features the singles “Grain of Salt”, which topped out at #2 on the Texas charts and "Sunny & 72" which was a #1 hit for the boys. The 3rd single, “Honky Tonk Honey,” is also the first Kin Faux single that the boys co-wrote, teaming up with Jim and Brett Beavers. It reached #1 in Texas at the end of 2023 and stayed there for four weeks.

In November 2023, the Texas Country Music Awards were held at Billy Bob’s Texas. The band was nominated for six awards and took home the top prize of "Entertainer of the Year" and "Drummer of the Year".

In late 2023 and, again, in mid 2024, Kin Faux returned to the studio, this time staying closer to home with award-winning producer Stormy Cooper of Stormy Cooper Media in Houston with the legendary Will Braun at the helm. The band recorded four new songs demonstrating the eclectic nature of their rich influences.

The first single from these sessions, “My Kind of Weathered,” set the stage for a bigger sound for the band. Written by Kensie Coppin, Barber Barrett, and Thompson Garrett, “Weathered” is about appreciation for the kind of character that things and people acquire with time.

In the Summer of 2024, “My Kind of Weathered” hit #1 on Texas Red Dirt radio, holding the position for a record-breaking 5 weeks on one of the three monitored Texas Red Dirt radio charts.

The boys are ready to release their cover of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” along with two other Jim Beavers-penned songs in 2025.

After an exciting 2024 that included invitations to play Mile 0, Rock the Coast, Born & Raised, NFR, and headlining debuts at the legendary Billy Bob’s and Gruene Hall, the bar is set for some exciting new shows and opportunities.

With a commitment to authentic storytelling and a vibrant sound, Kin Faux are poised to become one of the most exciting names in Texas Red Dirt Country history.
