About this concert
Featuring a collection of original songs that channel the complex world of today through his “hipster” filter and demonstrating why he is indeed the “first ever existential jazz rapper”. "His compositions are infectious and swinging, in a manner combining the soulfulness of a Horace Silver, and the cool sensibility of Mose Allison (to whom Sidran has often been compared). His lyrics are firmly with beat poets, and his musical arrangements, heavy with a shuffle beat, have an easy going languorous vibe, like sipping a cool drink on a hot and muggy day, kicking back, being content and satisfied, yet pontificating on the ways of the world." - Audiophile Audition In his 60-year career, Ben Sidran’s love of music has led him to be a pianist, a singer-songwriter, an author, a record producer and a music journalist among other things. He has been his own short-order cook, juggling his own career and his projects. He has produced artists as Steve Miller, Mose Allison, Diana Ross, Boz Scaggs, Phil Upchurch, Tony Williams, Jon Hendricks, Richie Cole and Van Morrison. His most recent solo album (his 37th!) was recorded live in France in 2024 and features a collection of original songs that channel the complex world of today through his “hipster” filter and demonstrating why he is indeed the “first ever existential jazz rapper”. He is joined by some of London’s finest, Orlando LeFleming on bass and Leo Richardson on saxophone. And, as usual, Leo Sidran (his son and producer) on drums.

Leo Sidran Biography
Musician, producer, arranger, composer, recording artist, and podcast host Leo Sidran started writing songs professionally as a teenager when the Steve Miller Band recorded his songs. Around the same time, he began performing regularly as a drummer with his father, renowned and multifaceted jazzman Ben Sidran
In college, Leo spent a year living in Spain and fell in love with Spanish music and the Spanish language. After college he traveled back and forth between the States and Spain. During that period, he met and befriended Jorge Drexler and years later, would co-produce the Oscar Winning song, "Al otro lado del río" from the film The Motorcycle Diaries with Drexler.
Sidran’s early solo albums found him working with session players in the States and in Spain. His 2014 release Mucho Leo was a completely solitary project featuring Leo on all instruments and voices. The album won fans in France where the song “Speak To Me in Spanish” went to the top of the French radio charts. The following year, a live recording made in France, captured the sound of Leo’s live sound with his newly formed Groovy French Band™. In 2018 he released Cool School [The Music of Michael Franks] followed in 2021 by The Art Of Conversation, and What's Trending in 2023.
